During your Honolulu vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Nuuanu Valley Rain Forest
It's not the same as a peaceful nature walk, but if time is short and hiking isn't your thing, Honolulu has a rainforest you can drive through. It's only a few minutes from downtown Honolulu in verdant Nuuanu Valley, where it rains nearly 300 inches a year. And it's easy to reach: As the Pali Highway leaves residential Nuuanu and begins its climb though the forest, the last stoplight is the Nuuanu Pali Road turnoff; turn right for a jungly detour of about 2 miles under a thick canopy strung with liana vines, past giant bamboo that creaks in the wind, Norfolk pines, and wild shell ginger. The road rises and the vegetation clears as you drive, blinking in the bright light of day, past a small mountain reservoir.Soon the road rejoins the Pali Highway. Kailua is to the right and Honolulu to the left -- but it can be a hair-raising turn. Instead, turn right, go a half-mile to the Nuuanu Pali Lookout , stop for a panoramic view of Oahu's windward side, and return to the town-bound highway on the other side.
Queen Emma Summer Palace
Hanaiakamalama, the name of the country estate of Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma, was once in the secluded uplands of Nuuanu Valley. These days, it's adjacent to a six-lane highway full of speeding cars that sound remarkably like surf as they zip by. This simple, seven-room New England-style house, built in 1848 and restored by the Daughters of Hawaii, is worth about an hour of your time to see the interesting blend of Victorian furniture and hallmarks of Hawaiian royalty, including feather cloaks and kahili, the feathered standards that mark the presence of alii (royalty). Other royal treasures include a canoe-shaped cradle for Queen Emma's baby, Prince Albert, who died at the age of 4. (Kauai's ultra-ritzy Princeville Resort is named for the little prince.)
Honolulu Academy of Arts
This acclaimed museum unveiled its new $28-million Henry R. Luce Pavilion Complex in May 2001, and wowed the state with its new exhibition space, courtyard, expanded outdoor cafe, and gift shop. A magnificent facility got even better, as two 4,000-square-foot galleries were added to the existing 30, and the John Dominis and Patches Damon Holt Gallery displayed the museum's Hawaii regional collection in one space for the first time. Considered Hawaii's premier example of kamaaina- (old-timer-) style architecture, the Academy is the state's only general fine-arts museum and has expanded steadily over the last decade. It boasts one of the top Asian art collections in the country, including James Michener's collection of Hiroshige's Ukiyo-e prints. Also on exhibit are American and European masters and prehistoric works of Maya, Greek, and Hawaiian art. The museum's award-winning architecture is a paragon of graciousness, featuring magnificent courtyards, lily ponds, and sensitively designed galleries. Spend a few hours or linger for a day here.

Good location

Lots of restaurants and stores to buy well known brands and everything is within a walking distance.

The hotel is well located, and what we liked the most was that breakfast was included, it was varied and delicious. The staff was very friendly and helpful

Convenient and great view

Tin-Man, Atlanta, GA

All kinds of restaurants are around. The hotel itself has several.

The Pacific Beach was excellent in many ways. I enjoyed the view of the ocean, the city, the mountain as well as the street. Staffs are very nice and helpful. I actually took some good pictures from the balcony. Obviously, the hotel is a little bit older so the wall and carpet do not look that new at all. Overall, it is a very nice hotel and very convenient located at the beach and the strip.

Tourist Friendly

Julia, 2007-03-07

The beach is right across the street. Buy a mat at the ABC store for $1.69. It really helps keep the sand off and for the price you can leave it behind.

We did a lot of tourist things and the Pacific Beach Hotel was a main pick up and drop off for these activities. It made it easy and one less thing to worry about when making these arrangements.

Outstanding breakfast buffet

Anonymous, Hartford Ct/Springfi, CT, 2007-03-04

Everything is available both inside the hotel as well as outside for shopping.

The hotel, situated across the street from the beach, provided us with easy access to everything. The breakfast buffet is one of the best that we have ever experienced. Having breakfast and sitting next to an awesome aquarium is very exciting. Highly recommend this location.

Nice Hotel

Anonymous, Detroit, MI, 2007-02-24

There are shops in the hotel and all along the strip. This hotel is just steps away from the ocean. Be sure to get an ocean front room.

The Pacific Beach Hotel was very nice. The room was large and clean. For the price, you'd think they'd provide the room safe free of charge instead of charging $4 a day.

very friendly

Jennifer, Indianapolis, IN, 2007-02-10

There is shopping everywhere on Waikiki Beach and in the hotel.

The staff at Pacific Beach were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean, but could use a little bit of work and updated. We had trouble with the elevators not working right when we were there. That's hard when you're on the 9th floor. I think the location is great and has transportation to anywhere that you need to go to. The famous Waikiki Beach is just across the street. Overall, not bad for the money, especially since you're just in the room to sleep.

Great Location - Interesting Aquarium

Paul, San Francisco, CA, 2006-11-07

Waikiki beach across the street from the hotel.

The Pacific Beach Hotel is located in the heart of Waikiki. You can walk to almost everything. Beach is across the street. The restaurant features a two story "oceanarium" with lots of large fish and several stingrays. We had a nice view of Diamond Head as well as the ocean from the side balcony. I was looking for wireless internet access for my laptop which was not available in my room.
