During your Honolulu vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Aliiolani Hale
Don't be surprised if this place looks familiar; you probably saw it on Magnum, P.I. This gingerbread Italianate building, designed by Australian Thomas Rowe in Renaissance revival style, was built in 1874 and was originally intended to be a palace. Instead, Aliiolani Hale ("chief unto heavens") became the Supreme Court and Parliament government office building. Inside, there's a Judiciary History Center, which features a multimedia presentation, a restored historic courtroom, and exhibits tracing Hawaii's transition from precontact Hawaiian law to Western law. Allow an hour at most to see it.
Hawaiian Railway
All aboard! This is a train ride back into history. Between 1890 and 1947, the chief mode of transportation for Oahu's sugar mills was the Oahu Railway and Land Co.'s narrow-gauge trains. The line carried not only equipment, raw sugar, and supplies, but also passengers from one side of the island to the other. You can relive those days every Sunday with a 1 1/2-hour narrated ride through Ko Olina Resort and out to Makaha. As an added attraction, on the second Sunday of the month, you can ride on the nearly 100-year-old, custom-built parlor-observation car belonging to Benjamin F. Dillingham, founder of the Oahu Railway and Land Co.; the fare is $15 (no kids under 13), you must reserve in advance.

Pagoda Hotel
The Pagoda Hotel is celebrated locally and internationally for the value of its accommodations, its convenient location in the heart of Honolulu, and the spectacular ponds of Koi fish that inhabit the ponds that surround the award-winning Pagoda Floating Restaurant. My review of Best Western The Plaza Hotel

terry, 2007-02-12

Had to drive all the way to Waikaki for a decent restaurant and apon getting there the parking is very limited.

Apon arrival I was assigned a room. Went to the room and my key opened the door. Entered to find a room that had not been cleaned. Went back to the check-in counter and told them the problem, they switched me to another room that had been cleaned. The second day there I went to go into my room and the key wouldn't work, went back to the check in counter and they did something to the key that would allow the door to open. Parking leaves a lot to be desired. I had to ask for extra towels. All this was happening on the 11th floor and the elevators are not the fastest in the West.

Would stay again

Elaine, St Louis, MO, 2006-07-15

Airport is only ammenitiy close by.

The Plaza Hotel, Honolulu Airport location was a comfortable hotel and would stay again if I just need to "turn-around" and return to the airport the next day. Location is not good for Waikiki stay.

Needs restoring

Desiree, Kahului, HI, 2006-05-17

Short drive from the airport and near to a Jamba Juice, Starbucks and several good affordable restaurants.

The bathroom was run down and the bathroom door was broken on the bottom, wall paper peeling off, the shower facucet was rusty and old. There was not enough time to enjoy the pool if you checked in at 3pm because it closes at 6pm. Breakfast in the hotel restaurant was not very good. The hash browns were so greasy tasting. I kept getting disconnected whenever I made a call to the front desk and the ice machine was spilling ice all over the floor!!!
