During your Budapest vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Jazz Garden
International artists and local jazz musicians entertain visitors while they dine. The ceiling has been painted to look like the night sky; the surrounding foliage and garden furniture give the impression you're dining in somebody's summer garden. The menu features traditional Hungarian items jazzed up with a slightly continental approach, like onion and game soup, deep-fried camembert and turkey breast Loire-style. The house wine is a good deal, but take advantage of the bargain Hungarian champagne.
Rolling Rock
This restaurant dedicated to American pale ale is the first of three in the city. There is another on Bartok Bela in District XI and a third situated within WestEnd Shopping Centre. The interior is clean and spacious with clocks suspended from the ceiling showing the time in different countries all over the world. The light green glass of the Rolling Rock brand beer bottle is the overriding colour. The bar is a good place to go for morning coffee, in the evening it also serves steaks, Mexican dishes and the usual American fare. Many different draught beers are also available.
Bombay Palace
Belonging to a chain of upmarket Indian restaurants, the Bombay Palace offers delicious spicy cuisine. The interior is adorned with several chandeliers. There is a host of waiters who all crowd around your table in a rather intimidating manner. Dishes are brought on a trolley and then served with a flourish. It is a popular venue for business lunches. The dishes are good but nothing out of the ordinary and the portions are rather small. The spices are used a little too sparingly - maybe in order not to upset sensitive palates - but the chicken cooked in a traditional Tandoori oven is good and the vegetable dishes are always reliable. Expect high quality wines and attentive service.
