Who Knew HoJO Could Be So Nice!?!

Steer clear of the vultures on Florida Street who yell, "Cambio." You're guaranteed to get either a bad deal on money exchange or counterfeit currency... or both. Numerous ATMs are located throughout the city and provide decent exchange rates.

After 6 recent trips to Buenos Aires, including 3 week-long stays at the Howard Johnson Plaza on Florida Street, I've come to believe that this hotel is a terrific bargain. For considerably less then what most of the comparable hotels are charging per night, the HoJo excels in three important areas: 1) the location is fantastic, though the Florida Street pedestrian mall can be a bit touristy; 2) the staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly, with nearly all having decent bilingual skills; and 3) the breakfast buffet (complimentary with most room packages) is a great start to the day in a city where break fast usually consists of only coffee and light pastries. Instead paying for ahigh-priced room at some of the other "chain" hotels, save your money here and spend it on a nice dinner at Cabana Las Lilas.

The HJ on Florida Street has a great location for shopping and access to Puerto Moderno and the Plaza de Mayo/downtown. However, the rooms are small and other areas such as Recoleta offer larger rooms with more character and services for the same price.

Flforida Street is a very busy pedestrian mall with many shops. The Galleria Pacifico mall is located on block from the hotel.

Pack an extra bag to fill with all of the bargains you will acquire in Buenos Aires.

This hotel can be summed up in two words: convenient and spacious. Excellent value for the money.

The best part of Buenos Aires is just taking the time for several long walks to explore the different areas of town.

Overall, I was really pleased with this hotel. We faced Florida Street but the room was VERY quiet inside due to newer, high quality windows. The value was good and the location was very central. Now that I know the city better, I would be likely to stay in a smaller neighborhood hotel or rent an apartment. However, for a first visit to Buenos Aires, this hotel met my needs perfectly. The hotel was gay friendly and the hotel went out of their way to provide advice and support.

The Howard Johnson Plaza Florida Street as the name announce is in the center of the tourist shopping section. All stores and restaurant reflects that fact (in quality and prices). At least the photos of this hotel are very accurate, what you see is what you get. The rooms are big, comfortable and clean. The staff is very attentive and will accomodate a late check out. Security is good. Breakfast on the other hand, is not that great. But who wants to eat in a hotel restaurant when you have so many choices around you.
