The hall carpets were filthy. The keys would not work when we checked in, we had to move to another room in the middle of our stay because they were remoleling the motel. The parking lot was blocked without warning and we were almost caught on a very bussy street. One night when we returned to the motel we had no hot water in thje room or the motel. In the new remoled room there was no base bord on the wall, no closet rod to hang our cloths and the hot and cold water in the tub-shower was backwards so the hot water was on thje right. the hot tub was turned off at 7:00 instead of 10:00PM and the person on the desk did not know how to turn it on. We had trouble getting in the side door near our room and had to enter through the lobby. At least 3 days the maid left no coffee for the coffee pot furnished in the room. And the ATM did not work. Score 1 out of 5 Avoid this one Anonymous, 2006-03-29 Busch Gardens close by.I primarily picked this motel as it had good rates and a free breakfast. Upon check-in I was informed there was no breakfast. I spoke with the manager. Apparently there has been a recent change in ownership and the free breakfast was discontinued. The room was not great either. No trash can, the toilet did not work well, the tub was very slow to drain, the air conditioner was barely putting out cool air, and the fan in the bathroom didn't work. I would hope this is not a typical room in the motel but if it is I would stay away. Anonymous, Seattle, WA, 2006-03-25 Busch Gardens was right accross the street.Since I chose my hotel pretty much on price, I wasn't expecting a whole lot from the Safari Lodge. I got to the hotel earlier than the check-in time, so I cruised the parking lot to give the hotel a once-over. It seems that the Safari Lodge is in the process of renovating, since there were several piles of debris and matresses outside of some of the ground floor rooms. The adjoining restaurant was closed for business, though there were several restaurants in the area. Despite the appearance of the hotel, the staff was friendly, and even let me check in before the posted check-in time. The room was spare and a little dingy. Perhaps the renovation had yet to reach this room? Everything worked fine, but I still felt that the room could have used another, more detailed cleaning. Overall, the Safari Lodge was okay for a one night stay, but I would be hard pressed to recommend it for anything longer than that. Score 3 out of 5 under construction Anonymous, 2006-03-09 Busch Gardens is just down the road, but take your car and pay the 8.00 for parking, to park and get in will take about 5-10 minutes to walk to the gate will take you about 30-45 minutes. The hotel is a great deal, and the location is awesome, you couldn't find a closer hotel to the gate of Busch Gardens, but... It is under major renovations, and hopefully that includes new mattress'. The carpets in the hall and rooms are very worn and stained, their was a dumpster parked litterally on our patio and the general feel of the hotel was that it was in pretty bad shape and hopefully they are fixing that. The actual room was very run of the mill, with the addition of a small micro-fridge and coffee maker. Score 3 out of 5 Location, location, location Kathy, Hartford, CT, 2006-03-07 Busch GardensThis hotel sits right across from Busch Gardens which is in very easy walking distance (even at the end of a long day walking at the Gardens) The restaurant is closed and they are doing a lot of construction so it was not easy to rest, there was a loit of noise and some inconvience. Score 1 out of 5 Unkept, dirty and Smelly DeLoris, Decatur, IL, 2006-02-19 The Safari Lodge was the worst place I have attempted to stay in a very long time. It was dirty and smelled as if not cleaned in a very long time, it was very very bad. We did not stay there, eventhough they would not give our money back. They cannot prosper like that.
