Most recent user reviewsScore 4 out of 5 Great location Anonymous, Tampa, FL There's a park just a block from the hotel. Awesome view and a historic place right next door to the hotel.Howard Johnson has comfortable rooms that seemed much larger than most with a desk area and a table and two chairs. I liked the fact that the bathroom was separate from the vanity area and there was a sink with a long counter and there was adequate space for hanging clothes and they provided two suitcase stands. The location was very good -- it was really a walking distance to the historic part of the town and there were restaurants right next door." Score 4 out of 5 Great Location Donna, Islip, NY, 2007-02-20 Take the Old Towne Trolly Tour, but buy your tickets at the Old Jail,(it's just a few doors down the street) for the best value. The best part of our stay at the Howard Johnson in Historic St. Augustine was the location, Stop # 18 on the Old Towne Trolly tour. Other than that I could not reccomend this property to anyone. The room had a peculiar smell, I saw quite a few bugs that I have conviced myself were only ants (I never put my glasses on to confirm), the floor outside the refrigerator was wet upon our arrival due to the fact that someone unplugged it. However the linens were clean & houskeeping was efficient everyday. Again though the location was great, my husband & I frequently say that we don't need fancy, we just need clean and comfortable. Score 5 out of 5 Very Comfortable Anonymous, 2007-02-11 We really enyoyed our stay at the Howard Johson's in historic St. Augustine. It was within walking distance of most of the places we wanted to visit. The hotel staff was very friendly. The room was comfotable and clean. Score 2 out of 5 A Definite Letdown billy, 2006-12-30 Our expectations were high. The in-room spa didn't work even though we paid extra money for this feature. I will not stay here again. Score 4 out of 5 Review Dennis, Jacksonville, FL, 2006-08-07 Downtown St. Augustine is just a walk or a short drive away.Score 4 out of 5 Close and comfortable Colleen, Denver, CO, 2006-07-26 CVS Pharmacy, Dunkin Donuts and Baskin Robins all within 2 block area. The Howard Johnson Inn- Historic St Augustine was close to historic downtown, on the trolley line and close by a drugstore and Baskin-Robins. The room was comfortable and the staff very attentive. Score 4 out of 5 Based on my experiences here... Jeremy, Columbus, OH, 2006-07-13 You are a mile walk from the ancient city and all it's shops, dining facilities, and pubs. Location is great, and with the cost of gas these days, you aren't putting unwarranted miles on your own or rental vehicle.I've been going to St. Augustine for almost 10 years. This motel could use a little improvement on their air conditioning system as it seemed to never totally cool down our room with the temperature outside being in the high 80's, low 90's. It's also the first motel I've stayed where the pool was under video surveillance. I can certainly understand why, but it was still disconcerning to us. Also, though the staff serviced the rooms regulary, they certainly were not generous with the linens. We received three bath towels, one hand towel, and one wash rag. Now, you walk back and forth a mile between town and the motel and how many showers do you think one takes? The tour trains start running between 8:00-8:30 AM and one of their stops is in the court yard of this motel where they proceed to ring the bells on their trollies outside your door preventing any sort of sleeping in. Their washing machine and dryer were fairly new, however their detergent dispenser was out of product and they didn't post any sort of sign to let patrons know this. Compared to the other paces I've stayed at in St. Augustine, I'd say Howard Johnson Express needs to step it up to get my business again. Score 4 out of 5 Great hotel for a short stay Anonymous, Dayton, OH, 2006-07-09 The trams that tour all of the historic areas of St. Augustine both stop on site. We took the green and yellow one - their pass was good for 3 days no matter whether you used it all three days or not, but you could get on and off as much as you liked. For a short stay (we were only there one night), this hotel was fine for the price. It was in a very convenient location (the historic tour trams stopped right at the hotel property). We had the front corner room which was probably a little larger and brighter than other rooms, but the bathroom was REALLY small. The room included a microwave and refrigerator which was nice. Score 1 out of 5 disgusted Anonymous, West Palm Beach, FL, 2006-06-11 we checked in and found a terrible musty smell in the room. there was a large stain on the ceiling like something had leaked. the carpet was wet to touch. we called the front desk and they sent housekeeping over and all they did was spray the room with room freshner. then we informed them that the accomodations were not acceptable and we requested another room. we were told there was not another room available so we told the front desk it would be necessary for us to leave. Score 5 out of 5 very nice place to stay richard, Orlando, FL, 2006-06-06 walking distance to the fountain of youth well right behind the hotel.the old senator tree a beautiful view from the center of the hotel. the old jail just about five buildings down the center of st. augustine is a mere .9 miles away and so easy to get to.the howard johnson's in st.augustine is very nicely located to see many attractions in the area.the staff at hotel was extremely friendly and helpful on our stay there.i would highly recommend a stay here if you visit the area. |
