During your Miami vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Spanish Monastery Cloisters
Did you know that the alleged oldest building in the Western Hemisphere dates from 1133 and is located in Miami? The Spanish Monastery Cloisters were first erected in Segovia, Spain for St. Bernard de Clairvaux, an influential church figure. Centuries later, newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst purchased and brought them to America in pieces. The carefully numbered stones were quarantined for years until they were finally reassembled on the present site in 1954. It has often been used as a backdrop for weddings, movies, and commercials and is a very popular tourist attraction.
Coral Castle
There's plenty of competition, but Coral Castle is probably the strangest attraction in Florida. In 1923, the story goes, a 26-year-old crazed Latvian, suffering from unrequited love of a 16-year-old who left him at the altar, immigrated to South Miami and spent the next 25 years of his life carving huge boulders into a prehistoric-looking roofless "castle." It seems impossible that one rather short man could have done all this, but there are scores of affidavits on display from neighbors who swear it happened. Apparently, experts have studied this phenomenon to help figure out how the Great Pyramids and Stonehenge were built. Rocker Billy Idol was said to have been inspired by this place to write his song "Sweet 16." An interesting 25-minute audio tour guides you through the spot, now in the National Register of Historic Places. Although Coral Castle is overpriced and undermaintained, it's worth a visit when in the area, which is about 37 miles from Miami.
Biltmore Hotel Tour
Take advantage of these free Sunday walking tours to enjoy the hotel's beautiful grounds. The Biltmore is chock-full of history and mystery, including a few ghosts; go out there and see for yourself. In addition, there are also free weekly fireside sessions that are open to the public and presented by Miami Storytellers. Learn about the hotel's early days and rich stories of the city's past. These wonderful sessions are held in the main lobby by the fireplace and are accompanied by a glass of champagne. Call ahead to confirm.

In need of a update and remodel.

Sandy, Seattle, WA

The rooms are convenient as an airport hotel. But the rooms are in need of an update and remodel. The price was exorbiant for the hotel classification. Carpets were dirty and the rooms are small and musty smelling.

the 24hr burger king was near by

The Miami International Airport hotel was conviently located just steps away from our arival gate at the airport. This is the only reason why I would recomend it. We arrived late with two small children in tow and had to wait a long time to check in. In general the hotel was not too clean. It suited our purpose only because we had an early morning connecting flight. The location could not have been beat for our purpose.

Eugene, Atlanta, GA

That's about the only thing going for this hotel. As part of the Miami Airport, it's a very convenient place to stay if you're catching an early flight the next morning or a late arrival that wants to get a few hours sleep before dealing with car rentals and such. Besides that, it was rather disappointing. First of all, It's in dire need of renovations. There were chrome and mirrors everywhere - especially along the guest corridors, which makes one think he's in a funhouse, rather than a hotel. There was rust, dissolving drywall, and peeling wallpaper everywhere. In the shower, once you got the right temperature adjusted, you would receive a burst of scalding hot water ever minute or so for no apparent reason. Again, just a hotel that seemed to need a lot of renovation work and perhaps some decor that was more in line with 2007 than 1972. When we initially checked in, they were obviously having computer problems and the frustration clearly showed on the staff. That happens sometimes, and I understand that, but no apology, no explanation of what was going on, no offer of assistance with our baggage and no directions on getting to our rooms. We ordered room service and it was not explained to us that there was a "cash only" policy when our meal arrived. Luckily, we had the cash -perhaps the computer problems prevented us from charging it to our room, but again no explanation. The hotel is advertised as being "soundproof" from the noises of airplanes taking off and landing, which is true, but there's little in the way of soundproofing from internal noise. Lots of door slamming and people talking could be heard quite easily. The room was clean enough and comfortable enough, which I guess is the most important factor, but being THE hotel for a busy international airport like Miami, it was rather disappointing.

the hotel does not provide an internet connection as indicated in the promotional material. The hotel relies on the guest using a third party independent provider. The room was very noisy, I could hear every sound from next door. The aircraft sound was controlled very nicely. Once the people next door went to sleep, I slept well.

Great to just walk from the terminal to your hotel room

The Miami International airport was very convenient especially when just stopping at the city for overnight. Nice rooms, recently decorated.

Convenient Location

Elizabeth, Des Moines, IA, 2007-03-14

If you are looking for a hotel that is convenient for airport travelers, then you have found it. Elevator in the main area from baggage claim, short walk, and you have arrived. I think you can even take the luggage carts from baggage claim the whole way if needed. Hotel check-in was a bit slow . I will warn that if you are arriving late, hotel dining/bar options are extremely limited (or closed!). I was in a newly renovated room which was nice, although a bit crowded, especially between the bed and the TV/armoire. There was ample space by the closet area and in the bathroom. Room was very quiet though and the bed was comfortable. Overall, I would recommend this hotel because of its convenient location in the airport.

Convenient and Quiet

Anonymous, Denver, CO, 2007-03-11

This hotel is in the Miami airport so is the ultimate in convenience. Pick up your bag, go up the escalator and you are in the lobby for check-in. Even though it is actually in the airport, it is one on the most quiet hotels I have been in around an airport location. The room was clean and nice. Because we checked in about 1AM and out the next morning, we did not use any of the rest of the facility. The only mar on a pleasant experience was the 2 of the 3 elevators were not working the morning of checkout.

Sure beats driving in Miami late at night

David, Key West, FL, 2006-07-31

My wife was getting in from Seattle on a late flight. This was very convenient and when she got off the plane we simply walked to our room. Rooms were comfortable, and clean. Surprisingly quiet for an airport although there was a fair amount of noise from other doors in the hallway. Parts were under renovation and we weren't using amenities at that hour. If your flying out of Miami early or getting in late its a great place. Parking is a little hefty at $12/day but can't beat the location
