Conceived as a cool-cheap chillout pad in South Beach, Townhouse opened its doors in Summer 2000 with a playful combination of modern design and homey comfort. Located on the beach at 20th Street and Collins Avenue, the hotel is conveniently located next to many of the Art Deco district's hotspots, including the shops and cafes of Lincoln Road. The idea was to create a happy, unpretentious place for people who have style but don't need to spend a lot of money," "People who just want to hang around somewhere that's both edgy and fun."

I choose this hotel because, three years ago, when I stayed there I remembered how hip and friendly and wonderful it was. Well, it still is. BUT. The Townhouse is right at the end of basically all that is cool about South Beach - it's right on the water, it's a boutique, it's intimate. But as I was walking by all the other hotels on the Ocean Ave/Collins Ave. strip, I kept wondering if they might be not only cooler, but more comfortable. The beds and the room are, as my friend put it - monastic. The rooms are done in red and white - heavy on the white and the beds are firm. Super firm. I checked under the sheets - it's basically a queen mattress on a hand made very simple wood platform. Comfortable, but not very. There's no pool and the fitness center is an exercise bike at the end of the hall on every floor. However, the staff is amazingly friendly and helpful. The lobby offers free coffee and juice and continental breakfast, stacks of papers and a chance to get to know your fellow travlers every morning. Plus you can rent the coolest bikes in South Beach from the front desk; red and white flyers - very snappy. If you're looking for something chic and are on a budget, it's a great hotel. The location is great even though it is not directly on the beach.. it is just behind another very nice hotel. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They even recommended a few hot clubs and even helped with reservations. They also leave you alone when you want to be left alone. I didn't eat at the restaurant but I did visit the rooftop which was fully equipped with a nice bar. The hotel is also set up for wireless internet access, good breakfast, cool crowd, great expierence. Even though it is located on the main strip, it is actually tucked away around the corner, so it's very quite. The service was excellent. If you needed anything they were there to help you out; plus the serivice was quite fast. I would definetly go back to the TownHouse |
