Italian style enlivens Art Deco Decor at this sophisticated; yet fun boutique hotel in South Beach located on famous Ocean Drive. Built in 1940 as the lord Balfour. The Wave Hotel sits in a quiet spot just a block from the Atlantic Ocean and within a ten-minute walk to nighttime action at hot spots such as Nikki Beach Club. Renovated in 2001, The Wave Hotel attracts a young, chic clientele and the occasional celebrity. Travelers looking for a modestly priced boutique hotel in a great location (and willing to forego a pool) end up here. The hotel stages frequent fashion photo shoots in its granite, gray blue lobby. By early evening, candles sparkle from the lobby to the serene petite garden courtyard. Potential guest should note that The Wave Hotel caters to an adult clientele almost exclusively, so it may be best to leave the young ones at home.
Most recent user reviewsScore 5 out of 5 good find Doreen, Philadelphia, PA, 2007-02-26 The clevelander is about 5 blocks away and it's open all night for dancing and drinkingAt first I was not pleased with the small room but as we stayed there,it grew on us. The location was very quiet but it was only a two block walk to all the happening spots of South Beach. If you want a quiet place to escape the madness this is the spot. very affordable. The bar is dead and there is no food except a continental breakfast. Really close to the beach. They give you beach towels and chairs on the beach are 10.00 Score 1 out of 5 Look elsewhere Anonymous, 2006-11-20 Near beach.I was disappointed with the Wave Hotel. My room had not been properly cleaned (ie much dust in bathroom and bedroom) Also the wall between my room the one next door was paper thin. And of course, being south beach, the neighbors were up talking loud from 3-5 AM! Not a pleasant experience. I'll choose something else next time. Score 4 out of 5 Somewhat Family Friendly James, 2006-11-20 The Wave Hotel was acceptable. There is an extra cost for parking of $20.00 per night. My vehicle was slightly damaged in the parking lot. The room was small and the hotel had no heat which is generally not a problem in Miami, but in our case it was. The room was 65 degrees when we checked in and did not warm up to 70 all night. We were informed by the desk that no heat was available. The second day was a little better heat wise, however the maid had opened the window and left it when the room was cleaned. It was unusally cool and the room was once again too cool for comfort. The provided continental breakfast was ok but left us wanting to go out for breakfast afterwards. Location was the best part since many South Beach restaurents were close enough to walk. The room barely had room to walk around in and by the time our luggage was in there it was very crowded. Score 4 out of 5 Location is their only advantage Anonymous, 2006-08-28 Use the beach on the same block if you enjoy to be away from the crowd. Saturdays at Pearl/Nikki Beach is dead, go on SundaysThe hotel is right on Ocean Dr, very close to the beach. It's away from the crowded tourist restaurant/bar area but still walking distance. 2 blocks from Nikki Beach/Pearl. But everything else is just blah.. The room smelled like smoke, the bathroom sink and tub had trouble with the drains, and overall, the hotel could have been cleaner. Score 1 out of 5 My review of The Wave Hotel Britney, Minneapolis, MN, 2006-08-27 Bring lots and lots of cash! Miami is expensive! The Wave Hotel was more like a Motel, rather than a hotel. The room was on ground level and the window did not have a screen, therefore, I was not able to sleep with the window open at night while the air conditioner was broken. We all went out for a night on the town and there was no difference in temperature from the time we left and came back. The temperature in the room we stayed in was at lest 80 degrees and very hot. We asked the clerk on duty to check out the room and he replied saying that there was nothing he could do about the air conditioner being broken and we would have to wait for the manager to come in at 7 am the next day. We tried to fix it ourselves with no success. We then again went to see if there was anything he could do for us; he came to our room to fix it. The air blew lightly and much hotter that before. The clerk then said that he would find a fan for and if he couldn't find one, he would let us see another room. 45 minutes went by with no response. We then asked him if we could see the other room. That room only had one double bed, leaving one of us to sleep on the floor with no roll out bed or cot to sleep on. Also, I do not believe the bartender was an actual bartender. The only thing great about this hotel was the location, it was a short walk to South Beach. I would not reccomend to stay at this hotel. It's okay if you're not looking for a somewhat luxurious hotel. Score 1 out of 5 My review of The Wave Hotel Ronald, Philadelphia, PA, 2006-08-19 The Beach is very close by, and eat breakfast or Lunch at the Big Pink, the waiters, and the Police officers that come in are so very good looking. The Wave Hotel was very dissapointing, they said I could check in early, but when I got there 5 hours before there ususal check in time, they said they didn't have any rooms cleaned yet, and I saw people checking out, the place smelled, and the furniture in the hotel was soiled, the bar never had anyone in there, and the prices of the drinks where too much, the room we stayed in, was facing Ocean Drive, and there was lots of constuction going on, because they are renovating Condos right across the street, the air condioner was on full blast, but the room still didn't get cool, all we had was a fan, which didn't do anything, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Being hungry is not an option.I had a pleasant stay at the Wave Hotel. The staff was very friendly, and the room was very comfortable. I liked the fact that the beach was just a block away and the location was great for the strip. The only thing I didn't like about the hotel is that it didn't have a pool or a dining area. My overall experience was great! Score 2 out of 5 good location Anonymous, 2006-06-23 A great breakfast restaurant called Pink around the corner and starbucks are two blocks away. The location of the wave was good. The hotel itself was okay. The hotel staff were very friendly and accomodating. |
