Most recent user reviewsScore 4 out of 5 Review Anonymous, Orlando, FL Good value for hotel on beach Score 4 out of 5 Budget Priced Accomodations Anonymous A park next door.Nice view of ocean and Miami skyline from a budget priced room. Fairly large room with table and chairs. An older hotel. Score 5 out of 5 My review of Howard Johnson Plaza Dezerland Beach & Spa Joyce, Detroit, MI, 2007-03-14 The hotel was close to south and north beachI like the location of the hotel. It was close to every thing I wanted to do. It was a very cmfortable hotel. It had a nice pool and was on the beach. Score 4 out of 5 Helpful and comfortable Andrew, Washington, DC, 2007-03-11 Take the bus system, but be prepared to deal with long waits, crowded buses, and a major reliance on change. The far was $1.50 when I was there, and we didn't get any change back. Taxis are too expensive and driving is too risky. Definitely go with the bus.My friends and I were staying in Miami for a convention and we wanted a hotel right on the beach so that we could spend what little free time we had there. The Howard Johnson Plaza Dezerland was perfect for our beach needs. A short walk through the pool area brought us right to the beach. The hotel was very reasonably priced as well, so we weren't breaking the bank while we enjoyed sunny Miami. The rooms were larger than I expected, and my own room had several amenities I was not expecting--I had to switch rooms and was given a family rom for the standard rate. The staff were amicable and helpful, always ready to help with any problems or get us a cab. I have only two complaints--one, the hotel-restaurant was a tad on the pricey side, and service was slow the night we were there. There are plenty of other restaurants and cafes within walking distance, so that was all right. Two, the free wireless access was rather difficult to access from our floor--I could really only get it from one spot in the room. This may be the case for only a few floors, but it was somewhat challenging to stay connected several nights. Other than those two minor issues, the HJ was a nice hotel with friendly service. I would recommend it to any of my friends who don't care about being in the heart of Downtown. Score 3 out of 5 Great beach amenities Cassie, St Louis, MO, 2007-03-09 The only attraction was jet ski rentals on location but they were $70 for 1/2 hour. Other than that NOTHING was near by.It was great that they offered chairs, umbrellas, and towels for you at the beach and pool. It has a beautiful outlook on the ocean and the pool is good size. Location was not very good. We had to walk 9 blocks to get to the nearest anything. Diner wasn't very good. We had really poor service for dinner. The breakfast was good but pricey for what it offered. Score 2 out of 5 friendly staff Anonymous, 2007-02-23 nightlife closebyold building, needs improvement. Score 3 out of 5 Great for relaxtion Sue, Chicago, IL, 2007-02-09 Some good restaurants walking north of the hotel, but long walk if not in shape. They are near the Publix grocery store. Can take the bus from the front of the hotel to about 94th St.Bus stops in front of hotel which provides excellent opportunity to get places since hotel is located in a neighborhood without stores or restaurants within walking distance. Closest area for this is approx 1 mile away. Hotel does offer a free shuttle to area shopping malls, unfortunately it was not running half the time we were there. Spa looked very relaxing. unfortunately you must pay for all amenities, even use of weight room and exercise equipment, even though you are a guest of the hotel. Restaurant was fun and decorated in a 50s car theme, but did not want all meals in same restaurant. I would not recommend the buffet breakfast; not worth it. The rooms were clean, as was the hotel and the staff was always friendly. Great location on beach, with running path and park right next to hotel. Pool was very cold in off season. A heater might allow more use of it. Score 2 out of 5 nice, close proximity to beach Anonymous, Cleveland, OH, 2006-09-17 on-beach site which was a big plusgreat service at the front desk! poor service in the restaurant and not enough menu variety, lack of proper maintenance in rooms. Score 4 out of 5 Peaceful Place Anonymous, St Louis, MO, 2006-07-24 There was restaurants close by. The south Beach where there were alot of restaurants and clubs was just a short drive from this hotel.Howard Johnson Plaza dezerland beach was a peacefull place to stay because it was right next to the beach. The room was nice however, there was a coulple of problems withthe bathroom. Other than that, it was a very nice and comfortable place to rest. There was definitly adequate place for our things. The staff was very nice and very helpfull and definitly friendly. Score 1 out of 5 Review Anonymous, Springfield, IL, 2006-07-18 |
