Most recent user reviewsScore 5 out of 5 Chic hotel in a quiet neighborhood Anonymous, Baltimore, MD, 2006-02-05 The China Grill is only a block and a half away and Wish which is about five blocks. There are also some nice shops along the way to Wish on Collins Street. I preferred eating at Wish as far as ambience, quality of food for the price, and they have a great outdoor patio. We were impressed by the simple chic decor of the Hotel St. Augustine. Although the front desk persons demeanor was mildly pleasant to slightly indifferent, it was an easy enough check in. We were surprised to see that we had the very first room in the hallway of the first floor. I thought that this would be an issue with noise since it was so close to the lobby, but they actually shut the hallway door in the evening, and we could barely hear anything. The neighborhood was equally as quiet at night. The room had some wonderfil qualities: the beautiful shower, nice open space where the sink and vanity are located, chic furnishings, and it was quite clean. Some not so good qualities, but easy to overlook: the loud almost rattling sound of the air conditioning vent, the pillows were very flat, and because the shower (exposed to the entire room) floor connects to the vanity area floor, the water would seep onto it which we would mop up so we would not slip on the slick tile. It is close to some great restaurants and an easy walk to Ocean Drive. It is a bit of a walk to Lincoln Rd which is the long promenade with shops and restaurants. We have two young children, and I do not think that this hotel would be suitable for them. I would definitely recommend this hotel for singles or for couples wanting a nice quiet getaway which is what my husband and I wanted. And if my husband and I are fortunate enough to have another long weekend together, I would definitely stay here again. |
