Key West, at the southernmost tip of the continental US, is a water enthusiasts paradise, with a colorful heritage...of shipwrecking and sunken treasures...of shrimping and fishing...of 19th-century architecture and spectacular golden sunsets. Still a creative haven for artists and writers and a restful and romantic haven for everyone.
. Hyatt Key West is undergoing a 9 million USD renovation with completion at the end of May 2007. The resort will remain operational but some hotel services may be modified or relocated to other venues. . Building Two - rooms, lobby and spa began this week. During lobby renovation, the front desk will be re-located to the lanai (veranda) outside.

Walk to the train tour up the street, take the tour, and then go back to the points that interested you. All levels of dining are available within walking distance. The newly remodeled Building 1 has great looking rooms; they are very nicely decorated and the bathroom is spectacular. The shower is particularly wonderful. But while the artistry is great, the practicality is wanting: the beautiful large screen tv does not swivel or tilt, making it necessary to watch from the bed only. The large horizontal light on the headboard of the bed is one large light with no sections and no separate lamp, so if one person wants to read in bed and the other wants to sleep, there is a real problem. There is also no standing lamp near the chairs, so reading there is difficult if not impossible at night. The room has Internet service, but there is no working or desk space (or stationery for that matter). The biggest drawback, in my opinion, is that there are NO hair dryers in the room (1107). How can that be? The dining room served excellent food. Score 1 out of 5 Not a good night's sleep! Paul, Minneapolis, MN, 2006-12-02 The hotel is close to everything - Key West is not a big place! Shops, attractions, restaurants, bars, etc.The hotel was under renovation when we stayed. We awoke the first morning at 8AM to the sound of jackhammers directly below us, removing tile. It is understandable that the work need to be done at some time, but that was a bit early for a place catering to vacationers. There was no allowance made on the room rates for the state of the hotel during remodeling. Overall, the hotel and grounds were not in good repair, certainly due for remodeling. Our room had been remodeled, so was in pretty good shape. It was missing light bulbs, which took two requests and two days to remedy. The TV remote control did not work the entire week we were there, despite repeated requests. The feather pillows smelled like a wet dog and the foam pillows were hard as a rock. We asked for replacement pillows and received more of the same. The bed was very uncomfortable, we woke up every morning with sore backs and shoulders. In fact, we got up early just to get out of the bed! Not what we had in mind for a week of leisure! The bathroom was nice and the new walk-in shower was great. The restaurant was very good, particularly the fish. A wedding party was booked in for the weekend, which was great for them, but not for the other guests. We were asked to move off the small beach area for the wedding party, the restaurant was unavailable that evening, and the pool bar staff were completely overwhelmed by the wedding party. Overall, it was not a great experience, no where close to a good value (we didn't expect cheap) and we would not return to the Hyatt Key West. Score 2 out of 5 Okay, but definitely not up to Hyatt standards Albert, Pittsburgh, PA, 2006-03-21 Rum Barrel - new bar/restaurant with entertainment outside upstairs. Conch Republic Seafood - on the HarborWalk. Great bartenders, lots of TV's, fresh air, great seafood! The elevators to take you to your rooms are absolutely the slowest on the planet. Went out for the day and came back at 4 p.m. Room had still not been serviced. But the lady who checks out what you have consumed out of the mini-bar was relentless. Couldn't escape her. She seemed to want to check our alcohol consumption several times a day! Location is fabulous. Great view of the Gulf and short walking distance to Duval Street. Try the Rum Barrel, a new establishment right across the street. For the cost of this trip, feeling pretty ripped off by our Hyatt experience. As a Gold Passport Member, I'm used to better from this chain. Score 5 out of 5 great getaway place rosaleen, 2005-08-19 Don't forget to find Pepe's which is a very short walk from the hotel. Great breakfast!!we loved the location, you could walk anywhere from the property. The staff were very helpful and the little beach/ cove access was pretty neat. The pool menu could have been a bit more exciting but we did like the fresh fish sandwich! A good time was had! Score 4 out of 5 Review Rachel, Boston, MA, 2005-05-05 No review provided by user |
