During your Jacksonville vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Southbank Riverwalk
Bordering the St. Johns River, directly opposite Jacksonville Landing , this 1 1/4-mile wooden zigzag boardwalk is usually filled with joggers, tourists, folks sitting on benches, and lovers walking hand-in-hand, all of them watching the riverboats, the shorebirds, and downtown's skyline reflected in the water. At 200 feet in diameter, the Friendship Fountain, near the west end, is the nation's largest self-contained fountain; it's especially beautiful at night when illuminated by 265 colored lights. Nearby, you'll pass military memorials, a small museum dedicated to the city's history, and the Museum of Science & History of Jacksonville (MOSH), at Museum Circle and San Marco Boulevard (tel. 904/396-6674; www.themosh.org). MOSH is an interactive children's museum focusing on the science and history of Northeast Florida. One of its stars is an Allosaurus dinosaur skeleton. It also has a small planetarium, with shows included in museum admission: $7 for adults, $5.50 for seniors, and $5 for children 3 to 12. The museum is open Monday through Friday from 10am to 5pm, Saturday from 10am to 6pm, and Sunday from 1 to 6pm. The Riverwalk is the scene of special MOSH programs, seafood fests, parties, parades, and arts-and-crafts festivals.
Jacksonville Landing
Resembling New York City's South Street Seaport, Boston's Faneuil Hall, Miami's Bayside, and Baltimore's Inner Harbor, this glass-and-steel complex on the north bank of the river serves as the focus of downtown activity. Yeah, you may see a mime or two occasionally, and there's a Hooters, a Ruby Tuesday, and a Starbucks, but there's also amazing local live music, good non-chain sushi, and Thai and Mexican restaurants. Unlike those in other cities, this complex is not just for tourists -- it's command central for many locals looking for a lively day or night out. There are more than 65 stores here, but shopping is secondary to the dining and entertainment. You can choose from a half-dozen full-service restaurants, plus an inexpensive food court with indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the river. The Landing is the scene of numerous special events, ranging from arts festivals to baseball-card shows, plus outdoor rock, blues, country, and jazz concerts on weekends. Call or check the website to find out what's going on during your stay.

No One Availabe at Checkout Time

Connie, Chicago, IL

There is a McDonalds, Burger King and Denny's close by.

When I went to check out (7 a.m.) there was no one there. I rang the bell and got no response. The office hours for Wednesday was 7-9 and I was standing outside waiting for someone to respond to the bell that I rang. I waited for 15 minutes and then went to get some breakfast and came back and there was still no one in the office when it clearly stated the office hours. This is really not a good set up. I would have really liked a print out for my check out to make sure they did not add anything onto the bill. We did not get clean towels in the 3 days that we stayed there. If you got clean towels you would be charged a fee for them. I went out and bought my own towels.

Good business structure

The Sun Suites Inn is a good place to stay and the price was very reasonable. just that some of the eating establishments were not something to be desired.

sanjuanita, Springfield, IL, 2006-12-17

it was a nightmare, i chose this hotel because it was close to my family member, but it was not what i expected. when we went into the room it had this terrible smell like gasoline or just plain awful smell my childern had trouble breathing and 15 min after we had to leave we couldn't stay there any longer. also the room was not clean, there was dust everywhere. my family and i got back into the van to find another place to stay.

Good deal for the money

A 15 minute drive to Jacksonville Beach.

The Sun Suites was very clean however the info provided said there would be dishes; That meant a couple of plates and cups, but nothing to cook on the stove with. That didn't really matter seeing as how the stove did not work and the remote to our T.V. did not work either. This did not matter really b/c our plan was to not spend all of our time in the hotel anyway. Also check-in was supposed to be at 2:00 pm and it ran well over that and it was a very chaotic time.

Good Value

Nancy, 2006-04-21

Red lobster was right down the road, a minute walk. and a Macdonald's was also right down the street....

Spoke to a very friendly hotel staff on the phone and was very professional. My only complaint was, we told them we didn't need maid service the next day , all we wanted was Fresh Towels and we never received them....

Review

Jason, 2006-03-11

My response may seem very pessimistic, but I assure you it is only realistic at worst. I stayed here the night I was married, a day before a 5-day cruise to the Bahamas. Paying for the wedding and cruise hit our pocketbook pretty hard so we tried to plan conservatively for the hotel room the night following the wedding, but obviously with the significance of that particular evening we didn't want to stay in a roach motel either. The room we stayed in was far from a suite, however. When we saw the conditions of the room, I was prepared to pay more for an upgrade, but there was no one on the staff at 10PM for me to speak with. There was, instead, a grumpy security guard who clearly had the same distaste about the poor hotel as we would. The room smelled, the television didn't work, and there was not even a drink machine on the premesis. And after looking around for an ice machine to chill my bottle of champagne so that my new bride and I could celebrate in vain. I honestly prefer holiday inn standard rooms by FAR over the SUITES that SunSuite offered. I would like to point out that the staff there was very professional and friendly and even helpful when I asked for directions. Those are big points with me, but as far as being enough to cite a recommendation.

good value/but not much else

Anonymous, 2006-03-08

bring your own bath ameneties and hair dryer.

The sun suites was a good value for the money. It is very startegicly located in a good area of town with excellent access to the interstate 95 exit. Giod tv selection and the wireless worked flawlessly. However not much else. Room very spartan. One bar of soap and no shampoo. Although rooms appeared new, room had a decidely low end look. Plenty for food nearby, but little on property, so if you are in for the night, it becomes challanging. If you know what you are getting, you can save $ here, but if not,you may be disappointed.
