During your Fort Lauderdale vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Billie Swamp Safari
Billie Swamp Safari is an up-close-and-personal view of the Seminole Indians' 2,200-acre Big Cypress Reservation. There are daily tours into reservation wetlands, hardwood hammocks, and areas where wildlife (seemingly strategically placed deer, water buffalo, bison, wild hogs, ornery ostriches, rare birds, and alligators) reside. Tours are provided aboard swamp buggies, customized motorized vehicles specially designed to provide visitors with an elevated view of the frontier while you comfortably ride through the wetlands and cypress heads. The more adventurous may want to take a fast-moving airboat ride or trek a nature trail. Airboat rides run about 20 minutes, while swamp-buggy tours last about an hour. A stop at an alligator farm reeks of Disney, but the kids won't care. You can stay overnight in a native Tiki hut if you're really looking to immerse yourself in the culture.
Stranahan House
In a town whose history is younger than many of its residents, visitors may want to take a minute to see Fort Lauderdale's very oldest standing structure and a prime example of classic "Florida Frontier" architecture. Built in 1901 by the "father of Fort Lauderdale," Frank Stranahan, this house once served as a trading post for Seminole trappers, who came here to sell pelts. It's been a post office, town hall, and general store and now serves as a worthwhile little museum of South Florida pioneer life, containing turn-of-the-last-century furnishings and historic photos of the area. It is also the site of occasional concerts and social functions; call for details.
Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale
A fantastic modern-art facility, the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale features permanent collections including those from William Glackens; the CoBrA Movement in Copenhagen, Brussels, and Amsterdam with over 200 paintings; 50 sculptures; 1,200 works on paper from 1948 to 1951, including the largest repository of Asger Jorn graphics outside the Silkeborg Kunstmuseum in Denmark; stunning Picasso ceramics; and contemporary works from over 90 Cuban artists in exile around the world. Traveling exhibits and continuing art classes make the museum a great place to spend a rainy day.

close to the airport

ron, Portland, OR

nothing was nearby but truck dealers and a travel park.

The best attribute was proximity to the airport. The hotel shuttle driver on our arrival was very helpful with information. The hotel itself was somewhat worn for the price of the room. It was clean, just seeming overdue for a remodeling. There were no restaurants nearby. The hotel restaurant was ok. Our waitress was very good and helpful (she was the younger of those working). The shrimp cocktail was not firm - almost mushy. My main course was very good.

Either direction would get you to a fast food resturant.

The hotel was a reminder to me of returning to the 70's era.It brought back some memories, had a pleasant stay.

Kind of run-down

james, 2007-03-12

The cafe inside had good soup and the breakfest was good as well

The staff did not seem to care much about my experience. I Was out at the pool sitting in a chair when it suddenly broke, I fell to the ground and my arm got caught in the broken part of the chair. I also twisted my back. One of the staff walked by shortly after and I mentioned to him that the chair broke, he laughed and said that was the 2nd one today. He also didn't dispose of the chair and kept on walking. I went in to fill out an accident report and the lady seemed to be put out because I asked to fill out a report. There was also no shower curtain in the bathtub. The bartender out by the pool used a lot of foul langauge while he was working. I was glad I did not have my kids with me. Although other people did. After returning home I called to speak with a person who I was told to call and still have received no call back.

Very nice

Anonymous, Wichita, KS, 2007-03-06

It was a nice hotel that was convenient before an early morning flight. I was surprised that they charged to shuttle people to the airport. It was cheaper for two of us to take a cab.

Great Stop Over for Cruise

John, 2007-03-02

Ft. Lauderdale Ramada Inn Airport/Cruise Hotel is minutes away from the either Miami or Ft. Lauderdale airport. The shuttle is a great feature. For cruising a 15-20 minute ride to and from the ship is also another great feature. They also make it nice to have a complimentray buffet breakfast to get you on your way. The free internet access also is a plus, but at the time of this trip there was no access to print documents, so we could not print our boarding passes. Rooms are clean beds are comfortable, what more can you ask for.

Great for Cruisers

Leonard, 2007-02-28

There is a very nice resturant about a block way. Food is good and reasonably priced. Unfotunatly, there is nothing else around. It would be nice if they had a shuttle to take peo;le to a mall or a beacs.

We were picked up within minutes from the airport. We were early so the put our luggage in a locked room. Rooms are clean and spacious. Courtyard is like a tropical garden. Do wish they heated the pool in the winter. Woke up to a nice hot breakfast and a bus to take us to our ship. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Terrible

robert, 2007-02-15

I checked in thinking that I was going to have a stress free trip to Michigan. I booked the room because of an early flight on the 15th. They asked me if I wanted a wake up call to catch the 6 am shuttle to the airport and I said Yes. I watched as the lady signed me up for the wake up call. I woke up the next morning at 5:45, called the front desk, they forgot to call me. TYhey said that I better hurry up or the shuttle will leave without me. I missed breakfest, I had no time to shower, and to say the least, I was very stressed out. When I returned, I called for a ride back to the hotel, I was told call back when I get my bags, when I did that, I was asked for my name & reservation number & put on hold for 15 minutes then disconnected. This exact thing happened 3 more times taking up one hour and still no ride. I ended up taking a cab back to the hotel which cost me $20.00. I am currently seeking a total credit & a refund for my cab. I will never stay at that hotel again.

Good hotel for cruises

Anonymous, San Diego, CA, 2006-12-18

The hotel has the basic amenities, but it did offer a good deal if you're going on a cruise afterwards. The rooms themselves were very basic but clean. They had an outdoor pool/tropical area that happened to be closed when we were there. Although there are cheaper hotels that have the same amenities, they do offer a free hot breakfast (adequate), free shuttle service from the airport, and free shuttle service to cruiseship terminal, making it a good deal.
