During your Fort Lauderdale vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale
A fantastic modern-art facility, the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale features permanent collections including those from William Glackens; the CoBrA Movement in Copenhagen, Brussels, and Amsterdam with over 200 paintings; 50 sculptures; 1,200 works on paper from 1948 to 1951, including the largest repository of Asger Jorn graphics outside the Silkeborg Kunstmuseum in Denmark; stunning Picasso ceramics; and contemporary works from over 90 Cuban artists in exile around the world. Traveling exhibits and continuing art classes make the museum a great place to spend a rainy day.
Museum of Discovery & Science
This museum's high-tech, interactive approach to education proves that science can equal fun. Adults won't feel as if they're in a kiddie museum, either. During the week, school groups meander through the cavernous two-story modern building. Kids 7 and under enjoy navigating their way through the excellent explorations in the Discovery Center. Florida Ecoscapes is particularly interesting, with a living coral reef, bees, bats, frogs, turtles, and alligators. Most weekend nights, you'll find a diverse crowd ranging from hip high-school kids to 30-somethings enjoying a rock film in the IMAX theater, which also shows short science-related films daily. Out front in the atrium, see the 52-foot-tall Great Gravity Clock, the largest kinetic-energy sculpture in the state. Call for details on changing exhibits.
Stranahan House
In a town whose history is younger than many of its residents, visitors may want to take a minute to see Fort Lauderdale's very oldest standing structure and a prime example of classic "Florida Frontier" architecture. Built in 1901 by the "father of Fort Lauderdale," Frank Stranahan, this house once served as a trading post for Seminole trappers, who came here to sell pelts. It's been a post office, town hall, and general store and now serves as a worthwhile little museum of South Florida pioneer life, containing turn-of-the-last-century furnishings and historic photos of the area. It is also the site of occasional concerts and social functions; call for details.

Waterfront Inn Beach Resort
The Beach Resort, located on Fort Lauderdale Beach, features a sensational location and swaying palms with a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean on beautiful Fort Lauderdale Beach Promenade. You will be in the middle of all the action with 4 star restaurants, caf? bars and great nightlife within walking distance. Lounge at our heated pool or bask on our white beaches with emerald waters. Have breakfast and coffee on our large oceanfront porch before heading off to close-by jet-skiing, ...

Hotel conditions

Alex

The first thing was the smell in the room, it was as if something had died!! The Hotel rep. stated the room had been remodeled with a few months, but did not look as if anything had been done, (things looked old). My sister also had a room and it smelled like cat urine on the carpet, we both past the nite spraying disinfectant.

Looking for some snacks? Winn-Dixie is right across the street. Many dining choices within a mile. Aruba restaurant (bar and grill) is on the ocean and also offers live entertainment and good, reasonably priced entrees. Sea Watch Restaurant, a little farther north on A1A, offers more variety, excellent seafood and a great bar staff.

1 night stay

Cassandra, Albany, NY, 2007-02-26

Nice retaurants on the ocean (good seafood & More) & Shops by the Sea are a minute away by car. Many nice tourist gift shops all close together. I really enjoyed it here. Very pretty & Lots to do!

My boyfriend & I stayed 1 night here. I was expecting it to be a little closer to beach, but you could drive to it no problem. Rooms had 2 beds and were good size. Pretty clean. Bathroom wasn't the greatest. Looked a little old. It was an alright stay. We both thought it was a little too overpriced but we were fine with staying here for 1 night. Pool was small but heated. Tiki bar was open late & was good size. That was the best part. Staff was real friendly. Some spots around the hotel needed new paint desperately. I put my parents up here too & they were fine with the stay, no cmplaints. Hotel seemed to be in a good area. Close to shops, restaurants & seemed safe.

Strongly reccomend against it.

Michele, South Bend, IN, 2007-02-20

The Palace hotel and Suites was not a pleasant place to stay. The elevator and lower hallway smelled of urine. The elevator was constantly inoperable. The desk clerk in the morning was very cool not quite rude but not friendly at all. I had bought a coffee cake for breakfast the morning of my check in. I set it on my dresser to have over the next couple of days. In the morning I noticed little bugs all over the dresser and in the coffee cake. I threw it out. Throughout my stay I encountered the little bugs everywhere in my room and bathroom. They got in my luggage, toiletries and any thing that wasnt in the refrigerator. The floor was so filthy that you couldnt walk in your bare feet or white socks as theyd turn black. Even though they say the beach is only 2 blocks away, what they dont tell you is that the closest access is about of a mile away.

First room moldie

Jon, Orlando, FL, 2006-05-13

Ft. Lauderdale Beach Palace Hotel & Suites started us in a room that had a/c water all over the floor and a really bad smell. After we complained, they moved us to a room with GREAT a/c. They were remodeling rooms all the 3 days we were there. We forgot a bag of groceries when we left. We called and they said they would hold them for us until we came back from the Keys. As expected, no bag was saved. This is not a bad thing, just don't do it yourself.

great location

Anonymous, Buffalo, NY, 2006-04-01

Shooters on the intercoastal is nearby as well as the Ft Lauderdale Beach Mall which has places like Fat Tuesdays and Sloppy Joe's.

The Beach Palace wasn't much of a palace. We arrived after midnight, and three times had to go back to reception for a room key that would work. Finally we were provided a different room that was under renovation. It was nice to have a balcony and ocean view. It was great to have a microwave and refrigerator. The pool, bar and restaurant food was great. We had to go to reception daily for towels. They provided poor quality towels and only gave us one towel and one face cloth each day even though two of us were there. We even left notes and cash for housekeeping and they still couldn't provide the minimal amount of towels. The hotel is located close to Ft Lauderdale Beach and has many restaurants nearby. Parking facilities were poor. Lot was very small.
