Nice place for the money

Anonymous, Boston, MA

Front Porch Diner on Ocean drive is about a mile walk from the hotel. Wonderful breakfast.

With the exception of a difficult check-in (we didn't get into the room until 6PM). Conditions of the hotel were quite good. Beach was clean and pool was nice, although very crowded. Smoking is allowed throughout the hotel (our room was non-smoking), and several guests were smoking. Housekeeping were friendly, although our room was made up late in the day for much of our stay. Just needed to plan arround it.

First thing I learned was that they do not have a place to park the car for free. It must be valet serviced...an extra $19.00 dolloars plus what ever tips are needed any time you need the car. If they discourauge the use of cars, then they should provide some form of cheap transportation along the beach front. Next was the lack of ant restaurants in the near vicinity to the hotel. If any are not well marked or of a price range acceptable. $5.25 for two coffees is a bit steep. The hotel location etc. is okay. Personnaly we will not go back there unless focrced to by family needs.

Good Rate

Julie, 2007-02-10

IF you want to get out of the hub bub of the South Beach strip....Great place to stay. The walk to shopping is about 1.5 miles...Not bad if you are in shape....If you drive bring lots of quarters for parking...

The location of the Hotel was a bit away from the Strip of South Beach. The value was good. The room wa comfortable. Had to pay for a refrigerator, the mini bar was not refridgerated. Odd I thought. The consierge service did not pick up on the phone.... Good value for the money....

Thanksgiving Fling

Stephen, Newark, NJ, 2006-11-25

The restaurants, of Ocean Avenue, are "to die for". Cuisine, of many cultures, can be found, within a two to three block walk; and the several "Latin" preparations were exquisite. Prices were resonable, and the specialty drinks, quite pleasing to the pallette.

The Palms, on Collins Avenue, is a charming, older hotel, in the process of rennovation. The staff were very accommodating and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The room we stayed in was a Junior Suite, and quite tastefully decorated. It provided a lovely vista of the grounds, behind the hotel, as well as a wonderful view of the Atlantic Ocean, and white, soft, sandy beachfront property. The main dining room was a friendly, casual-proper environment; quiet, yet comfortable, with a live pianist playing softly in the lounge area. Diners could sit inside or on the outside patio; the menu was the same. Also, daily there were chef's specials, which I and my partner enjoyed, once or twice. The grounds, with a spacious swimming pool, hammocks and pool bar, were quite a "hit". As I said earlier, the staff-- inside and out-- were very friendly and capable; wanting to do whatever they could to make things even more comfortable. There was one thing, however, that I missed (only because of a scheduling problem-- mine) was to enjoy one of "The Palms" famous "Hot Rocks" soothing massage. I will place that as item number "one" on my "to do" list, the next time I return. Had a great time.

Great to hotel for business stay

Anonymous, 2006-11-08

The hotel for the money I paid was well worth it. They were working in the hall way..some contruct, however, minor. I would stay there again for business or pleasure. Beach was not clean out all had to wear shoes to avoid stepping on glass.

Weak Facade

Anonymous, 2006-10-03

Trying to dress-up an old lady with only partial success. Greeted in the room with a 2 long cockaroach, but fortunately it was legs up (dead). The whole ambience is that of a worn-out facility trying to pass as an over-priced spa. It just doesn't make the grade. The location on the beach is excellent, the pool has a relaxed feel, but the personnel are not friendly.

Under renovation

Anonymous, 2006-09-29

While staying at The Palms (Sept 28, 2006), the hotel was going through some renovation. There was some noise such as drilling and hammering during the day. There is NO parking on site. Valet is $19 a night, with unlimited in and out, though you are expected to tip the valet attendants each time. (This definitely can add up). Pretty chic hotel.

Paradise found!

Anonymous, Chicago, IL, 2006-09-27

The Palms South Beach was a tropical paradise. The first thing I noticed when entering my room was the beautiful ocean view that looked just like a postcard. The pool was perfect and the poolside cocktail service was spot on.

Just skip it

Bruce, Seattle, WA, 2006-09-23

The Palms has a south beach address but is in a run down-deserted part of Miami Beach. The person checking us in informed me that there was an 18.50 "Hotel fee". The clerk explained the hotel fee was for things like pool towels, pool chair and the like - total scam... The food was fair but VERY expensive (Chicken parmesan 32.00). I asked for a late check out, as our cruise ship would not be loading until 2:00 but discovered my room key no longer worked at noon on check out day! I was rudely told we had to be out by 11:00 (hotel was near empty) and thats why my key was deactivated! On top of all of that, our floor was under construction and you had to dodge hanging electrical wires and lighting fixtures to and from your room. Like the title says, Just skip it.
