During your Fort Lauderdale vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale
A fantastic modern-art facility, the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale features permanent collections including those from William Glackens; the CoBrA Movement in Copenhagen, Brussels, and Amsterdam with over 200 paintings; 50 sculptures; 1,200 works on paper from 1948 to 1951, including the largest repository of Asger Jorn graphics outside the Silkeborg Kunstmuseum in Denmark; stunning Picasso ceramics; and contemporary works from over 90 Cuban artists in exile around the world. Traveling exhibits and continuing art classes make the museum a great place to spend a rainy day.
Museum of Discovery & Science
This museum's high-tech, interactive approach to education proves that science can equal fun. Adults won't feel as if they're in a kiddie museum, either. During the week, school groups meander through the cavernous two-story modern building. Kids 7 and under enjoy navigating their way through the excellent explorations in the Discovery Center. Florida Ecoscapes is particularly interesting, with a living coral reef, bees, bats, frogs, turtles, and alligators. Most weekend nights, you'll find a diverse crowd ranging from hip high-school kids to 30-somethings enjoying a rock film in the IMAX theater, which also shows short science-related films daily. Out front in the atrium, see the 52-foot-tall Great Gravity Clock, the largest kinetic-energy sculpture in the state. Call for details on changing exhibits.
Stranahan House
In a town whose history is younger than many of its residents, visitors may want to take a minute to see Fort Lauderdale's very oldest standing structure and a prime example of classic "Florida Frontier" architecture. Built in 1901 by the "father of Fort Lauderdale," Frank Stranahan, this house once served as a trading post for Seminole trappers, who came here to sell pelts. It's been a post office, town hall, and general store and now serves as a worthwhile little museum of South Florida pioneer life, containing turn-of-the-last-century furnishings and historic photos of the area. It is also the site of occasional concerts and social functions; call for details.

Rodeway Inn & Suites Airport/Cruise Port

My review of Monte Carlo Resort

beach

Room was not cleaned the whole time we were there which was for 3 nights. This means that neither the trash was taken out nor the beds made. We only recieved clean towels once and this was at about 4:00 on the third day/ second night. The gentleman brought the towels in without knocking. Instead of typical washcloths we received checked kitchen dishrags. The whole thing was really biazarre. Shower stall was dirty when we arrived. Fan was nearly falling out of the ceiling. Safety was a factor as well. The doorknob to the Location was near the beach and the price was good. Next time I will upgrade to stay at a nicer establishment.

A Good Hotel

matthew, 2007-03-13

Dining, nightlife, shopping, and the beach are all in walking distance

The Monte Carlo Hotel was a nice quiet motel. I enjoyed our stay there. The only thing was I was under the impression that they were going to come change our sheets and clean up a bit, but that didn't happen. Other then that, the location was great, one block from the beach. The most important accomodation this motel has is its staff. They were the friendliest people in Ft. Lauderdale.

Pre-cruise stay

Variety of restaurants and the beach close by!

If you're looking for a fancy place to stay this is not it. Considering most of this type of 'resort' were built in the 60s it was fairly well maintained so if you just need a room for the night within walking distance of the beach and restaurants this location might work for you. The gal at the front desk was very friendly and helpful.

Great for the money....

Juliet, Dallas, TX, 2007-02-10

Bars within walking distance. Beach a little farther down.

I was a little nervous about the room because we got the price for so cheap, but I was very surprised. Although on the outside this place looks a little run down, it's actually well taken care of and clean. Parking sucks, and it's not in the greatest area, but, for what we spent, I think it was great!

great location

Anonymous, Washington, DC, 2006-12-31

The hotel is one block from the beach. There are a lot of beach stores, cafe and restuarants in a short walk distance.

The hotel is located just one block from the beach. There are a lot of restaurants 2-3 blocks away from it. The window of the room looked at the pool. The hotel is clean, but looks ramish. The bathroom was clean, but it was unpleasant odor in the room.

Some improvement would be good.

Less than 2 blocks from the beach!!

Some maintenance would improve things much. A paint job and more cleaning. The staff was great though. The pool was nice. If you don't want to spend much and in the meantime not expect much then it's a great choice.

For those who keep it real

Hubert, Baltimore, MD, 2006-06-05

A one minute walk from the beach and a ten minute walk (along the waterfront) from dining and watering holes.

If your looking for a place that's more than a hotel room (full kitchen, eating area, sofa) but yet clean and pay the rate of a regular hotel room, the Monte Carlo Resort might be the place for you. you should not expect the latest and greatest in amenities but be more focused on the willingness of the owner and staff to make your stay enjoyable. So if that's where you are "keeping it real" this is the place for you.

Zero Maintenence

Thomas, New York, NY, 2006-05-28

Only saving grace is that it is not that far from the airport.

This hotel was what I would consider a "Flea bag" hotel. The internal courtyard was not swept daily and it looked like that was not a priority. But the thing that disturbed me the most was the ants and the palmetto bugs that I encountered in the room. The bathroom had ants all over - to the point where the dead ones had to be swiped away with a towel so that after I showered I didn't have them all over the bottom of my feet. When I was a single guy, my apartment was nicer than this joint. The couch was soiled, the bedstand top had obvious water damage, the door into the unit was filthy dirty with handprints and needed paint as well as the closet doors. This was the worst hotel experience of my life.
