Most recent user reviewsScore 1 out of 5 Operating with low budget Christopher, Providence, RI Deep sea fishing is close by. Shopping is mostly centered around tourist and there isn't much there if not wanting a FLA tee shirt. Ft. Lauderdale has many nice restaurants and shops on Las Olas which isn't too far. We enjoyed Jack Jackson's steak house.Upon arrival at 5PM, our room was not ready and we had to wait in the "bar". The bar wasn't really a bar, but more of a hallway that went to the pool. It was lightly stocked. If you order food, the one bar tendor (she's the only bar tendor employed by the hotel) she had to go up to the third floor to get the food, leaving the bar unattended and no service for the duration. She also had to call in each credit card for authorization because they didn't have a swipe which was time consuming for her. When she needed to be not working, there was no bar service. The restaurant claims to have Starbucks coffee, but it didn't taste like it and they had Greenmountain lids. There was only one staff waiting on tables in the restaurant. They couldn't make change in the restaurant for a 10 dollar bill. The pool had sand in it for days. Looked filthy. The whirlpool had a yellow hew to it, needless to say we didn't go in the pool or the whirlpool. This operation is being run with barely any staff. Be prepared to leave the hotel for entertainment and to drive. Buy your wine and liq. for your room. The room was surprisingly decent; but, the rest of the building seriously lacked updating. Score 1 out of 5 Lazy and uncarinf staff, management cares even less Ellen, New York, NY, 2007-03-03 The Ocean SandS Resort and Spa in Pompan BEach is a complete disaster. There is one person at the reception desk who checks guests in, performs check out answers any questions, and is responsible for the gift shop attached. While you wait ion line to check in, be sure to listen to the directions each time she gives oit to the person on front of you. Because if you don't memorize it you will spend 20 minutes on line every time you want to ank a question. My room was not even cleaned oevery day was thereOnce I asked at 1:oo pm if my room could be cleaned within the next hour and I was assured YES. I returned to my room at 2:45 and it was noit yet cleaned. The cleaning person finally arrived at 3:45 while I was on a conference call and I was told Now or never. The next morning (my room was never cleaned that day)I askec again for my room to be cleaned in the morning and the same person as the day before assured me yes and assured me I was next on her list (20 hours later. The manager never returned my phone call in the 4 days I was there. I filled out my satisfatction card and asked to be contacted after and to date I have not. I contacted the Fitness center on Tuesday night and left a message to find out the time of the sunrise stretch class. The call was never returned. I stopped by the next day to get a copy of the class schedules none was avaialble and no fitness instructors were present. IThe call was never returned. I called the Fitness center through the front desk and was connected to the spa ans was told there is no manager for the fitness center jeust the instructors who come in from time to time. Two days later when my room was finally cleaned the cleaner dio not make the bed, just pulled the covers up very sloppily. and she left some cleaning supplies in the bathroom which she/he also did not finish. I called housekeeping and again never got any response. One day at lunchtime I ordered lunch at the poolside restaurant, I was told by the waitress/bartender to check back every 20 minutes or so because she was too busy to remember who ordered what. (there were 3 people at the pool at this time) You reaally have to wait about 40 minutes for anything you order. The food is made upstairs on the 3rd floor and the one waitress/bartender has to go upstairs to get it. Even though 5 orders may be ready she can only carry 2 or 3 so don't order anything hot because she may not go back up for another 15-20 minutes because she has to give out all the orders, take new orders, make drinks etc before she goes back up again. For this they automatically put a @.50 and 18% service charge on every order. All in all this was the WORST experience in more than 25 years of traveling. This place was expensive for good service, It is a complete rip off for the complete lack of service received. Score 2 out of 5 Condo Doesn't Make It As a Hotel Michael, Washington, DC, 2007-02-23 Nice room; nice beach. Had refridgerator but no ice. Had microwave but no kitchen utensils, e.g. knives, forks, plates, etc. Had iron but no board (took two hours to get one). Barely could fit two people on the balcony, Staff was friendly but overwhelmed. Slow to respond. Had to tip everytime you took your car out which was mostly parked far away and took a long time to retrieve. Lounge chairs on the beach were free but not enough for the number of people at the hotel. If you took a walk, your chair would be gone when you came back. A nice looking facility but poorly managed. Score 5 out of 5 Comfy Beds Anonymous, Cincinnati, OH, 2007-02-19 The Pompano bar at the hotel has great sandwiches and lunch food. It is reasonably priced and you can eat right by the pool. The Ocean Sands Resort and Spa was a nice hotel. THe room was very clean and spacious. The beds were VERY comfortable and the view was nice. The pools and hot tubs were nice, but we didn't use them. The staff at the bar were very friendly and suggested places to visit and dine. We were about 10 minutes from Las Olas Boulevard in Ft. Lauderdale where there was much to see and do. Score 5 out of 5 Great location Dave, Los Angeles, CA, 2006-10-30 LighthouseThe Ocean sands resort and spa is right on the beach. Very pieceful and not so crowded when you went out to other palces. Very friendly staff. The facility was very well taken care of and clean. From your room, you had a great ocean view. The room had everything, including a washer and dryer. You could walk out the front door to the beach. I plan to go back next year.
