During your Tampa vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
The Florida Aquarium
See more than 5,000 aquatic animals and plants that call Florida home at this entertaining and informative attraction. The exhibits follow a drop of water from the pristine springs of the Florida Wetlands Gallery, through a mangrove forest in the Bays and Beaches Gallery, and out onto the Coral Reefs, where an impressive 43-foot-wide, 14-foot-tall panoramic window lets you look out at schools of fish and lots of sharks and stingrays. Also worth visiting are the educational "Explore a Shore" playground, a deepwater exhibit, and a tank housing moray eels. You can look for birds and sea life on 90-minute Eco Tour cruises in the Bay Spirit, a 64-foot catamaran. The aquarium also offers a Dive with the Sharks program (tel. 813/367-4005) that gives certified scuba divers the chance to swim with blacktip reef, sand tiger, and nurse sharks for 30 minutes. The $150 price tag includes a souvenir photo and T-shirt.
Adventure Island
If the summer heat gets to you before one of Tampa's famous thunderstorms brings late-afternoon relief, you can take a waterlogged break at this 25-acre outdoor water theme park near Busch Gardens Tampa Bay . You can also frolic here during the cooler days of spring and fall, when the water is heated. The Key West Rapids, Tampa Typhoon, Gulf Scream, and other exciting water rides will drench the teens, while other, calmer rides are geared toward younger kids. Wahoo Run plunges up to five riders more than 15 feet per second as the half-enclosed tunnel corkscrews more than 600 feet to a waiting splash pool. There are also places to picnic and sunbathe, an arcade, a volleyball complex, and an outdoor cafe. Although some people tend to go barefoot here, I suggest you wear shoes at all times -- it gets kind of nasty after a while.
Tampa Museum of Art
Located on the east bank of the Hillsborough River, next to the round NationsBank building (locals facetiously call it the "Beer Can"), this fine-arts complex offers eight galleries with changing exhibits ranging from classical antiquities to contemporary Floridian art. There's also a 7-acre riverfront park and sculpture garden. Call or check the website for the schedule of temporary exhibits. However, if you have time for only one art museum on your trip, skip this one and head to St. Petersburg for the more innovative Salvador Dalí Museum.

Wonderful experience!

Lynn, 2006-10-16

Several fast food restaurants within walking distance.

The Tahitian Inn and Cafe is an absolute gem! The room was very clean and spacious and tastefully decorated. The bathroom was beautiful with granite countertops and the shower was spacious, had great water pressure and a full massage shower head. The bed was a little more firm than I prefer but none the less comfortable. Our room had a refridgerator and microwave and both were very clean. The grounds were beautiful. The architecture of the building truly makes you feel like you're in the South Pacific. Lots of terra cotta and arches. There were several water fountains hidden among the lush greenery and the pool area had hammocks, cafe tables and chairs. Very pretty. We only ate in the restaurant once for breakfast. It was delicious and good size portions. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Great Honeymoon

Ellyn, Providence, RI, 2006-07-22

There was just about every imaginable restuarant within walking distance. also there was Wal-Mart, Target, CVS, etc... We found some thrift stores about a mile up the road and for all people from the Norht East there was a Dunkin Donuts about 2 miles away.

The Tahitian Inn was very comfortable. The room was always clean and smelled really nice. The staff was very friendly. They helped us with finding directions. The Room was a lot larger than we we anticipating. We had plenty of room for our belongings.

pleasant stay

Anonymous, Fort Lauderdale, FL, 2006-07-17

Museum of science not too far away. Bring your own large towels for the pool. Lots of restaurants near by.

The atmosphere was pleasant and our family enjoyed ourselves. The rooms were spacious and the beds comfortable. We also enjoyed the heated pool. The blowdryer overheated and the fridge and microwave had difficulty working properly, but the staff was excellent in trying to fix these issues. All in all a pleasant stay for the price.

Surprising for an Non-Chain

Anonymous, Chattanooga, TN, 2006-06-14

Bush Gardens is very close by and plenty of nightlife within walking distance.

The Tahitian Inn is nice and very surprising for a Non-Chain, independantly owned hotel. Arrived the same day as a Tropical Storm, but staff and grounds were great considering. Good location and freindly service. Rooms are basic and the carpets could use an update, but overall, you get what you pay for.

Staff indifference

Anonymous, 2006-06-13

west shore mall, international mall

I arrived in the middle of a driving rain. The staff was sitting behind the desk chatting and totally ignored the fact that I was standing there waiting to check in. It took over 20 minutes to get the first room - and then we were told it wasn't ready even though it was well after their 3:00 check in. With 2 rooms to go - it took another 20 minutes. Meanwhile - a very loud and rude 'janitor' kept interrupting with questions to the person checking us in. The staff indifference wasn't an isolated incident - we had questions about the neighborhood, directions, etc. - we gave up trying. You also had to go outside in the rain to get to your room.

Great Value

Anonymous, Boston, MA, 2005-10-30

My sister and I stayed there when we went to Tampa to visit friends. The rooms are clean, but very average, but the rest of the hotel was very nice. We got massages at the spa and had breakfast at the cafe downstairs. Both were very nice. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for an inexpensive hotel in Tampa.

St. Petes Times Forum

Its in a good location from the Forum and shopping around, but the rooms are very motel type and the beds are pretty firm.....the place looks nice and the restaurant was good. Good value for money, but not a top choice.
