During your Denver vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Fat City
This 3.5-acre indoor entertainment mall, completely renovated in 2000, bills itself as "fun for everyone." It's not much of an exaggeration -- inside are 40 lanes of bowling, mini-golf, Laser Tag, roller-skating, and a large video arcade for the kids; for the more mature crowd, there's scads of TVs, billiards, a restaurant, and a 50-foot martini bar. Allow 1 to 4 hours.
Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls & Toys
This late-19th-century property is home to an intriguing collection of antique and collectible dolls, from rag and wood to exquisite German and French bisque. Also on display are dollhouses, from a Santa Fe adobe with hand-carved furniture to a replica of a 16-room home in Newport, Rhode Island. The museum also displays wonderful old toys, from teddy bears to model cars. The gift shop is equally delightful. Allow 45 to 60 minutes.
Denver Art Museum
Founded in 1893, this seven-story museum is wrapped by a thin 28-sided wall faced with one million sparkling tiles. Construction on a jagged, avant-garde addition, designed by renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, began in 2003. When finished in fall 2006, the unique structure will double the size of the museum and give Denver its most distinctive building by a long shot. The museum's collection of Western and regional works is its cornerstone. Included are Frederic Remington's bronze The Cheyenne, Charles Russell's painting In the Enemy's Country, plus 19th-century photography, historical pieces, and works by Georgia O'Keeffe. In 2001, Dorothy and William Harmsen, longtime Colorado residents and founders of the Jolly Rancher Candy Company, donated their prestigious Western art collection to the museum. Assembled over 40 years, the collection immediately made the museum's inventory of Western art one of the most impressive in the nation. The American Indian collection is also excellent, consisting of more than 17,000 pieces from 150 tribes of North America, spanning nearly 2,000 years. The collection is growing through the acquisition of historic pieces as well as the commissioning of works by contemporary artists. Other collections include architecture and design; graphics; and Asian, African, Oceanic, modern and contemporary, pre-Columbian, and Spanish Colonial art.Overview tours are available Tuesday through Sunday at 1:30pm, plus 11am on Saturday; an in-depth tour of a different area of the museum is offered each Wednesday and Friday at noon and 1pm; and a variety of child-oriented and family programs are scheduled regularly. There is also a gift shop. Allow 2 to 3 hours.

The Red Lion has a nice lobby area but that is the end of being a business person friendly hotel. The location is confusing to get to and entrance not clearly marked. Business class hotels should provide access to wireless internet in the room as a convenience to the business traveler. The Red Lion only provides lobby and resturant area for no charge access. The least they should provide would be a room or area dedicated to the business traveler needing this service. They not only don't provide such an area but they charge for almost every convenience including local calls and $10 a night for the privilege of having wireless access in your room. Restaruant food was good but the atmosphere was not inviting or warm along with some of the help. They fail to mention the trains that pass within a 100 yards of the hotel and blow the whistle for a couple of non-lighted crossing during the night and early morning hours. This is not a hotel I would reccommend for the business traveler. There are much better choices out there.

Good Value

Anonymous, Minneapolis, MN

We went to the Denver Stock Show about 15 minutes away, the hotel was on the free shuttle bus route that ran every hour, this was great and saved us a ton of money on taxi cabs. The hotel also offered a free shuttle bus to and from the airport, again saving extra transportation money.

The Red Lion Hotel Central in Denver is a comfortable hotel with a newly remodeled lobby that included a beautiful fireplace and bar with a separate restaurant. The staff at the front desk was always very helpful, and the food from the restaurant was good however the wait staff could use some new lesons on how do their jobs. The room was large and kept very neat and clean. The fitness center was very small and the equipment was old, but it was still functional. Overall for the amout of money per night I feel this was a very good value in a great central location.

Like a freight train through my head...

Robert, Providence, RI, 2007-03-13

The lobby is very nice and the staff did a fine job. The location was very convenient to the freeway and other shops...however...It is also very close to the trains that blow their whistle at various times throughout the night. It was not a one time/one night issue...it happend multiple times every night I stayed there (3 nights). Was very frustrating as I never truly got a full nights sleep on my visit.

Very Nice Hotel

There are shopping centers and restaurants within a short driving distance and it's so easy you will not get lost.

The Red Lion Denver Central had nice accommodations. There were activities and the restaurant and stores were open with accomodating hours. I would stay there again especially since it was easily accessible from the highway.

Home Depot and Wal-Mart are right up the way.

Bad location

Anonymous, 2007-02-19

When you get off I-70 head South on Quebec and then make a left at the FIRST light onto Smith Road. Cross the other side of Quebec and head down this small little drive in front of the Credit Union and make another left. The hotel entrance is on your right. If you cross the railroad you went too far.

The Hotel is located right off the freeway next to a busy street. That sounds like a good location, but there is only one small road that leads to the Hotel parking lot, and finding that road from the freeway or the busy street takes a lot of driving around and back and forth. Also the hotel is kind of sunk in surrounded by the freeway, the busy street and the rail road which are about at the same height as the Hotel's second or third floor (the hotel has 5 stories total). Only the east facing side of the hotel feels like you're not at the bottom of a pit. Other than that, the lobby interior was really nice, and staff was very attentive and friendly. It was great to just get my keys, enjoy my stay, return my keys, and go home. The room was on the smaller side, but it had everything one could ask for, except for a refrigerator. The biggest drawback about the room was cleanliness. There was dried up soda on one of the tables, and chewing gum stuck on the carpet.

There is a small shopping area close to the hotel. It had several food options to include Country Buffet, Panera, and Ihop. It also had a Walmart and a few small stores.

The Red Lion Central was a very nice hotel. The room was large and very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable and the facility was very nice. They served a wonderful breakfast buffet. They provide a shuttle service to and from the airport. I would definitely return.

Great Business Amenities

Great BBQ down the street!

I liked the easy wireless access. Everyone was friendly. I would have my family stay there. It was 15 degrees and snowing. My rental car did not have an ice scraper. I asked the person at the front counter for one and she took the time to look around and eventually found one for me to use.
