During your Denver vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Colorado History Museum
The Colorado Historical Society's permanent exhibits include "The Colorado Chronicle," an 1800-to-1949 timeline that uses biographical plaques and a remarkable collection of photographs, news clippings, and paraphernalia to illustrate Colorado's past. Dozens of dioramas portray episodes in state history, including an intricate re-creation of 19th-century Denver. There's also a life-size display on early transportation and industry. The first major new permanent exhibit at the museum in some time, "Ancient Voices," is slated to open in early 2005, a $400,000 multimedia exhibit dedicated to Colorado's native tribes and their history. It will be followed by another new exhibit, "Confluence of Cultures," which will depict the Pioneer era when it opens in 2006. The museum offers a series of lectures and statewide historical and archaeological tours. Its gift shop is also worth a visit. Allow 1 hour.
Butterfly Pavilion & Insect Center
A walk through the butterfly conservatory introduces the visitor to a world of grace and beauty. The constant mist creates a hazy habitat to support the lush green plants that are both food and home to the inhabitants. If you stand still for a few minutes, a butterfly might land on you, but don't try to pick them up -- the oils on your hands contaminate their senses, interfering with their ability to find food. One display describes the differences among butterflies, moths, and skippers, and color charts help with identification. (A butterfly guide is available for a nominal fee.)In the insect room you'll discover that honeybees beat their wings some 200 times per second, and beetles comprise one-fifth of all living things on earth. Meet arthropods (the scientific name for insects) that are native to Colorado, and see exotic species from around the world. A fascinating "touch cart" allows you to get up close to a cockroach or tarantula, assuming that you really want to.A 31,000-square-foot expansion was completed in 2004, housing "Shrunk!" -- giant robotic insects (it can be scary for little ones) and nifty interactive exhibits about the biomechanics of bugs. Also on the premises are a large gift shop and snack bar. Outside, a 1/2-mile nature trail meanders amidst cacti and other desert-friendly plants. Allow 2 to 3 hours.
City Park
Denver's largest urban park covers 330 acres (96 sq. blocks) on the east side of uptown. Established in 1881, it retains Victorian touches. The park encompasses two lakes (with boat rentals and fishing), athletic fields, jogging and walking trails, a free children's water feature, playgrounds, tennis courts, picnic areas, and an 18-hole municipal golf course. In summer, there are concerts. The park is also the site of the Denver Zoo and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science (including its IMAX Theater), discussed elsewhere in this chapter.

Queen Anne Bed and Breakfast
The Inn faces small park on quiet residental street of restored historic homes(1871-1895). Just 3 blocks from city centerline street (broadway), 6 blocks to the state capitol and pedestrian mall, 7 blocks to convention center. Within walking distance of offices, museums and ...

Great Value

Adam, Washington, DC, 2006-11-17

Great value hotel very close to downtown. It's a little removed from the convention center area (1 mile or so), so it's a little cheaper than other places downtown. Staff is very friendly, always willing to help. There is a free local shuttle to take you just about anywhere nearby. Not too many restaurants nearby, but the shuttle can take you to some good ones! I enjoyed it, and will be back.

wonderful view

Anonymous, Denver, CO, 2005-11-06

We were at the Fillmore Auditorium the nights we were there and it was only a mile away.

My husband and I shared the room with another couple. The room had one bedroom with a king size bed that was very comfortable. The other couple slept on the sleeper sofa in the living room. We had a full kitchen with a large deck that had 3 sliding glass doors into the living room, dining room and bedroom. The view was of the city and mountains and the sunsets were great. We were happy we were also allowed to bring our dog. The room service was awesome! We were close to many Denver sites and truly enjoyed our stay.

Bummer

Anonymous, Chicago, IL, 2005-06-21

The hotel overbooked and we were sent to a local Ramada. We were disappointed that we weren't notified in advance. The staff told us that the neighborhood was not safe where we were sent and they didn't recommend we walk outside at night. The shuttle service took a long time. It took over 2 hours before we got to a room.

Had problem at check in that lead to more

Anonymous, Minneapolis, MN, 2005-06-06

We checked in and were not asked for a credit card, thus the next time we tired to open our door it was invalid, we went downstiars to re program our keys and they did, then next day I quess everyone was told the situation becuase the next day the same key problem happend but this time it took several tries at re programing the key before they finally figured out that we needed to have a credit card number on file. So this all would have been taken care of if the new hire front desk person would have taken our card number.
