During your Anaheim vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Grace Cathedral
Although this Nob Hill cathedral, designed by architect Lewis P. Hobart, appears to be made of stone, it is in fact constructed of reinforced concrete, beaten to achieve a stonelike effect. Construction began on the site of the Crocker mansion in 1928 but was not completed until 1964. Among the more interesting features of the building are its stained-glass windows, particularly those by the French Loire studios and Charles Counick, depicting such modern figures as Thurgood Marshall, Robert Frost, and Albert Einstein; the replicas of Ghiberti's bronze Doors of Paradise at the east end; the series of religious murals completed in the 1940s by Polish artist John de Rosen; and the 44-bell carillon. Along with its magical ambience, Grace lifts spirits with services, musical performances, and its weekly Forum (Sun 9:30-10:30am except summer and major holidays), where guests lead discussions about spirituality in modern times.
California Academy of Sciences
Originally clustered around the Music Concourse in Golden Gate Park (in multiple buildings) and intending to return there around 2008 after a complete rebuild, this grouping of outstanding museums is now across from Moscone West, near the Yerba Buena Gardens and Center for the Arts. In its new location the Steinhart Aquarium houses some 5,400 animals, including seahorses, turtles, snakes, and poison dart frogs as well as a two-story 20,000-gallon living coral reef featuring Harlequin Tush fish, Yellow Tangs, sea stars, and a giant clam. Kids love the "touch tide pool" where they can get their mitts on live sea life.An edited version of the Natural History Museum has also been transplanted and hosts changing exhibits such as "Ants: Hidden Worlds Revealed," which shows the insects in action within six different live ant colonies. Some of the museum's permanent displays have moved, too, including Snake Alley, where terrestrial snakes reside; Astrobiology, an exhibit exploring life in extreme environments; and ScienceNOW, which presents a frequently changing display of Academy research, breaking science news, and expeditions around the globe. Toddlers will love the Nature Nest, an education center with hands-on learning activities.Families should look into the Academy's calendar of events, which includes fun kid-friendly festivities such as face-painting, storytelling, animal origami, and exhibit-related stories and demonstrations.
Haas-Lilienthal House
Of the city's many gingerbread Victorians, this handsome Queen Anne house is one of the most flamboyant. The 1886 structure features all the architectural frills of the period, including dormer windows, flying cupolas, ornate trim, and winsome turret. The elaborately styled house is now a museum, its rooms fully furnished with period pieces. The Foundation for San Francisco's Architectural Heritage maintains the house and offers docent-led tours. The 1-hour tours (the only way to see the house) start every 20 to 30 minutes.

Great location and price

Cary, Orange County, CA

Short walking distance to shopping! Sears restaurant is walking distance and is great for breakfast...you have to try their small pancakes....very good...it's what they are known for. Excellent service too!

This hotel was very clean and nice. Nothing "Super Special", but great for the price. It was only a couple of blocks from Union Station and so close to everything. The staff was so helpful and the accomodations were nice. The room was small but sufficient and clean. The beds were very comfortable, but the bathrooms were very small. Nothing extra special in the rooms, but adequate and an excellent value! We would definitely stay there again.

Somewhat noisy, no view...

richard, 2007-03-13

all the best department stores within a 10 minute walk. plenty of food offers in the neighborhood.

We had a room on the 5ht floor with a 'view' to an interior space, home to a couple of pigeons (early morning cooing). Along with no view, we found the walls and door to be quite thin, so that we could hear clearly the people in the next room and in the corredor. Also outside noises, sirens, trolley bells, etc., invaded our room. Bathroom sink a little low. Shower good. Very good location for Union Square, Market and Mission street areas. Friendly and helpful staff!

Room 510

All the popular stores were within a block walking distance.

Our stay at the Kensington Park hotel was alright. The room size was adequate and the location was great. The staff was wonderful. What we didn't care for was the noise level that could be heard in the room from the street and the room next door. Also I would have liked a coffee maker in the room or even in the lobby.

In shopping area

The room was nice but the neighbours were a bit loud or the walls are too thin. Could hear tv and people talking in the middle of the night.

Close to the Union Square shopping district.

This is a good hotel for the price. The rooms are somewhat small, but it wasn't a big problem for me. The best part of the hotel was the complimentary wireless Internet access.

Close to shopping and transportation

Anonymous, Minneapolis, MN, 2006-04-29

Great little deli's and many good higher-end restuarants within easy walking distance.

The Kensington Park Hotel was near a trolley line, close to Macy's, Broders, and other great shopping. We were able to get on one of the trolley lines less than a block away from the hotel. There is several good places to eat within easy walking distance. The room was very nice. Some street noise too early when on vacation and wanting to sleep past 7 am. It was nice that the bathroom is away from the main sleeping part of the room, with the closet as a noise buffer. We enjoyed our stay.
