During your Anaheim vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Ferry Building Marketplace (and Farmers' Market)
There's no better way to enjoy a San Francisco morning than strolling this gourmet marketplace in the newly renovated Ferry Building and snacking your way through breakfast or lunch. Tasty tenants, open daily, include many of the best of Northern California's gourmet bounty: Cowgirl Creamery's Artisan Cheese Shop, Recchiuti Confections (amazing!), Scharffen Berger Chocolate, Acme breads, Wine Country's gourmet diner Taylor's Refresher, famed Vietnamese restaurant The Slanted Door, and myriad other restaurants, eateries, and wine bars.An added bonus and San Francisco favorite is the Farmers' Market, which is open alfresco on Saturdays from 8am to 2pm and Tuesday and Thursday from 10am to 2pm. Drop by to peruse stands hawking the finest Northern California fruits, vegetables, breads, dairy, flowers, and readymade snacks by a few local restaurants. You can also pick up locally made vinegars and oils -- they make wonderful gifts. Drop in on Sunday from 8am to 2pm for the gardener's market, which focuses on plants but also has a bit of produce. Even when the market's closed, the glistening Ferry Building is now a worthy stop thanks to its new restaurants and shops.
San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park
Shaped like an Art Deco ship, the Maritime Museum is filled with sailing, whaling, and fishing lore. Remarkably good exhibits include intricate model craft and scrimshaw. The collection of shipwreck photographs and historic marine scenes includes an 1851 snapshot of hundreds of abandoned ships, deserted en masse by crews dashing off to participate in the gold rush. Beautifully carved, brightly painted wooden figureheads from old windjammers line the walls. Two blocks east, at the park's Hyde Street Pier, are several historic ships, now moored and open to the public. The Balclutha, one of the last surviving square-riggers and the handsomest vessel in San Francisco Bay, was built in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1886 and carried grain from California at a near-record speed of 300 miles a day. The ship is now completely restored. Kids can climb into the bunking quarters, visit the "slop chest" ("galley" to you, matey), and read the sea chanteys (clean ones only) that decorate the walls. The 1890 Eureka still carries a cargo of nostalgia for San Franciscans. It was the last of 50 paddle-wheel ferries that regularly plied the bay; it made its final trip in 1957. Restored to its original splendor at the height of the ferryboat era, the side-wheeler is loaded with deck cargo, including antique cars and trucks. The black-hulled, three-masted C. A. Thayer, built in 1895, was crafted for the lumber trade and carried logs felled in the Pacific Northwest to the carpentry shops of California. Unfortunately, it's undergoing renovation and isn't slated to return until 2006.Other historic ships docked here include the tiny two-masted Alma, one of the last scow schooners to bring hay to the horses of San Francisco; the Hercules, a huge 1907 oceangoing steam tug; and the Eppleton Hall, a side-wheel tugboat built in England in 1914 to operate on London's River Thames. At the pier's small-boat shop, visitors can follow the restoration progress of historic boats from the museum's collection. It's behind the maritime bookstore on your right as you approach the ships.
Pier 39
PIER 39 is a multilevel waterfront complex a few blocks east of Fisherman's Wharf. Constructed on an abandoned cargo pier, it is, ostensibly, a re-creation of a turn-of-the-20th-century street scene, but don't expect a slice of old-time maritime life. This is the busiest mall of the lot and allegedly welcomes 11 million visitors per year. It has more than 100 stores, 11 bay-view restaurants, a two-tiered Venetian carousel, a Hard Rock Cafe, and arcade and aquarium entertainment for the kids. And everything's slated toward helping you part with your travel dollars. It's the place that locals love to hate. That said, it does have a few perks: absolutely beautiful natural surroundings of bay views, fresh sea air, and hundreds of sunbathing sea lions lounging along its neighboring dock.

Mall and Union Square shopping just a few blocks away.
Everyone at the Hotel Diva was very helpful. The room was smaller than I was expecting and the bathroom was incredibly small. There was almost no room to put a tolietry kit besides on top of the toliet. Convenient location to Union Square but with that brings lots of street noise.

Dissappointment!
Anonymous, San Jose, CA, 2006-10-09
Union Square only two blocks away. Also the newly opened Westfield shopping center a few more blocks away.
Hotel Diva was a huge dissappointment. the slow elevators, the musty smell, the tiny rooms and even tinier bathroom, the noise from the hallway and other rooms...I will never stay there again. And I will tell anyone how pathetic it was!
Great location

Dolce & Gabbana, Hermes, Prada, Gucci, Chanel, Betsey Johnson & Macy's just to name a few...
The Hotel Diva was very trendy, in a great location, had very helpful staff. The only things I was disappointed in were the size of my room (tiny) and bathroom (miniscule); and the ammenities. But the general down-to-earth and helpful attitude of the staff made the experience much better. There couldn't be a better location! Theaters, restaurants, bars, shopping, art & culture, oh-my!
Great boutique hotel

La Scala. Great mussels.
European-style boutique hotel, with a great American amenity--a small, but decent gym! Also, every hotel should have complimentary wireless, as Hotel Diva does. Hotel staff were quite friendly & helpful. When I asked to move my room due to a very noisy air conditioner, they had me in a new room within 10 minutes. Location near Union Square is very nice.

lots of great shopping nearby.
The room size was very disappointing - quite cramped for the price. There were virtually no amenities available. Though, the location was great.

The right price for the right location

The Diva is a small clean hotel, one block from Union Square. The rooms have broadband connections and the staff is friendly. There are basically no services in the hotel. Starbucks has an entrance into the lobby. Loads of Diners and more serious restaurants are within one block from the hotel. The look and style is a little bit 1985, you expect "Duran Duran" to come out of the lobby. The parking in the area is a complete nightmare, you can let the hotel take care of it a steep cost.
