During your San Francisco vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Mission Dolores
San Francisco's oldest standing structure, the Mission San Francisco de Assisi (aka Mission Dolores), has withstood the test of time, as well as two major earthquakes, relatively intact. In 1776, at the behest of Franciscan missionary Junípero Serra, Father Francisco Palou came to the Bay Area to found the sixth in a series of missions that dotted the California coastline. From these humble beginnings grew what was to become the city of San Francisco. The mission's small, simple chapel, built solidly by Native Americans who were converted to Christianity, is a curious mixture of native construction methods and Spanish-colonial style. A statue of Father Serra stands in the mission garden, although the portrait looks somewhat more contemplative, and less energetic, than he must have been in real life. A 45-minute audio tour costs $5; otherwise, admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.
Octagon House
This unusual, eight-sided, cupola-topped house of interest to architecture buffs dates from 1861 and is maintained by the National Society of Colonial Dames of America. The architectural features are extraordinary, and from the second floor it is possible to look up into the cupola, which is illuminated at night. In the small museum, you'll find Early American furniture, portraits, silver, pewter, looking glasses, and English and Chinese ceramics. There are also some historic documents, including signatures of 54 of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence. Even if you're not able to visit the inside, this strange structure is worth a look.
Coit Tower
In a city known for its great views and vantage points, Coit Tower is one of the best. Located atop Telegraph Hill, just east of North Beach, the round, stone tower offers panoramic views of the city and the bay.Completed in 1933, the tower is the legacy of Lillie Hitchcock Coit, a wealthy eccentric who left San Francisco a $125,000 bequest "for the purpose of adding beauty to the city I have always loved" and as a memorial to its volunteer firemen. She had been saved from a fire as a child and held the city's firefighters in particularly high esteem.Inside the base of the tower are impressive murals titled Life in California and 1934, which were completed under the WPA during the New Deal. They are the work of more than 25 artists, many of whom had studied under Mexican muralist Diego Rivera. The only bummer: The narrow street leading to the tower is often clogged with tourist traffic. If you can, find a parking spot in North Beach and hoof it.

Best deal for best price

China Bazar is just few minutes walk

To begin with, this is the best deal we can get for the best price. The hotel staff were very co-operative, the room service was prompt. The Breakfast served was good . The room is very small but enough for single travelr like me.The queen size bed is comfortable. There was a problem with the heating system, the exhaust inside the room does not provide enough heat , I had to suffer the cold .The Hotel Management should do something for this. Regarding the neighborhood, i beleive its safe, if we mind our own business. The Location was good and close to china town and other downtown attractions. Regarding surprises, The room does not have a bath tub , ofcourse, i didnt mind it. The wireless Internet is not free and you will have to pay more than 8$ per day.

Convenient to San Francisco tour sites

Anonymous, 2006-11-20

We found the hotel charming and the staff very helpful. Our corner room was pleasant, and the bed large and comfortable. It was easy to walk down the hill to the downtown area including Union Square. The trolley line was handy. Be aware that the bathroom is small and the shower TINY. The drain in the shower was plugged, but immediately fixed when we told staff. I would definitely stay there again.

A surprise near Nob Hill and Union Square

Roxanne, 2006-07-02

North Beach and Chinatown on not far and a a decent walk--if you take Grand Street(less hills). I recommend eating in North Beach and seeing the show, "Beach Blanket Babylon"... A great night out....

The Executive Vintage Court was a big surprise. The room was not the largest, but it had all the amenities that I would need when visitng a city. The queen size bed was comfortable, with the right amount of covers and pillows. There was a refridgerator, mini-bar etc. I liked that the vanity area was hidden behind doors. Besides a bed, there was a comfortable chair to rest after a day of walking the hills of San Francisco. The hotel was clean and the continental breakfast and wine tasting in the evenings were a welcome suprise. The staff was courteous and helpful. I was traveling alone and they made sure that I felt welcome, staff and accomodated. The location was wonderful. It was on the corner of Bush and Powell Streets, great access to the cable cars, Union Square, North Beach and Chinatown. The Executive Vintage Court helped to make my first trip to San Francisco enjoyable and restful.

Friendly Staff

Tracy, Omaha, NE, 2006-06-29

Union Square

The Executive Vintage is in a great location 3 blocks from Union Square, 5 blocks from the BART and 2 blocks from China Town. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were small and a little dated but the staff's helpfulness made up for it. The location is definitely a highlight. They also have a free wine tasting nightly from 5 to 6. This gives you a chance to talk to other travelers and to chat with the staff about restaurants/directions/sight seeing/ect.

Nice location

David, Dallas, TX, 2006-06-03

Access to cable line.

The Executive Hotel Vintage Court was about like staying at a motel . This property was located nicely for cable car access, but seemed out dated and we had holes in the sheets.

Low key upscale hotel at budget price

Anonymous, Washington, DC, 2006-05-19

Look in a guidebook at a bookstore or something to find the little strip of restaurants nearby.

It is right near Union Square (just up toward Nob Hill a bit but its not a bad climb). Trolleys run literally half a block away. Chinatown is within two blocks. There is a great restaurant filled street (converted alley, much ambience) just a three minute walk away. There are numerous cheaper restaurants nearby (any variety of ethnic food you can think of) as well as Masa (a highly rated, but VERY expensive restaurant). The rooms were clean and very comfortable - TV, A/C, decent bathrooms, etc. The daily wine reception is great - they are generous with the wine and the wine is actually good. You can't really go wrong here if you are on a budget but want to be centrally located (and are looking for something more than a budget motel-like vibe). I didn't check out the nightlife nearby but you could probably just take a cab someplace and there are probably a few decent bars around. Very safe neighborhood as well.

Very family friendly

Barbara, Baltimore, MD, 2006-03-23

To Chinatown, Union Square, cable car rides.

The hotel is in a great location convenient to downtown, Chinatown and Fishermans Wharf--the staff are exceptional! The morning breakfast and wine tasting in the late afternoon are a nice touch and allows you to interact with other travelers. The room was a little small, but more than adequate space for the little time spent there. I would definately love to return to take advantage of their marvelous hospitality!!!!
