You get what you pay for...sometimes less!

Anonymous, San Diego, CA

Cathedral Hill is conveniently located however that is about the best I can say about it. The hotel is old. Very noisy so bring earplugs. I'm sure it used to be pretty nice...but has fallen in disrepair.

Decent

Anonymous, Pittsburgh, PA

Chinatown is about 6 blocks down

The Cathedral Hill Hotel was not too bad. The things I didn't like were: -$20 to park in the garage overnight, although you are a guest -In my room a window was not set into the window pane and I was able to hear traffic all night -It's hard to get to if you are not familiar with the area and it's poorly marked The things I did like were: -The restaurant Jack Tar in the lobby -The cleaning service did a great job -The hotel staff was very friendly -Easily accessible to downtown and the bay

Nice hotel, good location.

David, Bozeman, MT, 2007-03-12

You are within walking distance of a variety of options for dining and entertainment.

My son and I enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The location was good, the facilities were in acceptable condition, and our room was clean and comfortable. I would point out a couple of things I was somewhat dissatisfied with. First, I felt the hotel charge for overnight parking for hotel guests was on the high side, and we were disappointed in the quality of the food we had for breakfast in the grill. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the hotel, felt it was a fair value, and I would stay there again.

Very good Value

Thomas, San Diego, CA, 2007-03-12

I was attending a Conference, so spent little time at the Hotel. Located across the street from a colorful dining location for a casual meal - Tommy's (Buffalo Stew). Another great value - lots of food for little money - and local colorful characters. The Hotel was in a reasonably convenient location - 4 short blocks to the Cable Car, good parking on site. It was clean and comfortable. For the money - a great value in the city.

Wonderful Kitchen

Sarah, Nashville, TN, 2007-03-04

Whole Foods, coffee shops, cable car on California.

The Cathedral Hill Hotel was a trend-setter in the 1960s but has been used hard. But if they had renovated the upstairs halls and guestrooms, the price would be higher. We ordered dinner from room service one night, expecting it to be adequate, and it was fabulous. We had Cioppino and Steamed Mussels, for $33, and nothing in restaurants that week tasted any better. My compliments to the chef. The deli and dining room were also better than expected. For a woman alone it was safe and comfortable; it was busy and jolly and they had everything I needed.

A bit noisy

Anonymous, Charlotte, NC, 2007-02-26

There's a bar/restaurant across the street from the hotel called Tommy's Joint. It looks like a hole-in-the-wall type of place, but the food was great and the price was even better.

The hotel was alright, but we had an outside room and the noise from the outside was ridiculous (traffic, street people, etc.). In addition, I think it's wrong that as a guest of the hotel, I have to pay to park in their parking deck, albeit at a discounted rate; which, by the way, amounted to $22.80/day.

Very Good for 1-Night Business Stay

David, Burlington, VT, 2007-02-13

Friendly, helpful receptionist and good room service. I had to work over dinner in my room and all went smoothly. Having to pay $10/day for AT&T wireless internet is my only suggestion to improve on the business side; if I'd been there more than one night this would have gotten old fast. On the Fitness side, the exercise room is bare-bones with about three lifecycles and one treadmill. Many of the dumb-bells were missing and one of the weight-stack machines was broken. It was a LOT better than no fitness room, but needs work!

Diamond in the Rough

Cathy, Austin, TX, 2007-02-12

The Cathedral on the Hill has seen better days, but the visit celebrating our 30th anniversary was delightful. Our view from the room was fantastic, whenever we would get too tired from walking around we would just go back to the room and enjoy the view from there. The staff was very courteous, helpful, and very quick to respond. We felt a little warm Saturday evening, the maintenance man was there in under 10 minutes. He serviced our room for 30 minutes, checking the air ducts and working with the system to limit the amount of warm air we got. We used the bus system located right outside the hotel to get around town which ran frequently. There were 3 eateries right across the street from the hotel, including a not-to-be missed place called Tommy's Joint.Other than wanting a fan, the visit could not have gone better and I'd recommend The Cathedral on the Hill to anyone. We may bring our own fan next time, but we'd want the very same room and this great hotel.
