During your San Diego vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
San Diego Aerospace Museum
The other big kid-pleaser of the museums (along with the Fleet Science Center, above), this popular facility provides an overview of the nation's air-and-space history, from the days of hot-air balloons to the space age, with plenty of biplanes and military fighters in between. It emphasizes local aviation history, particularly the construction here of the Spirit of St. Louis. Highlights include the only GPS Satellite on display in a museum, and a World War I-era Spad. The museum is housed in a stunning cylindrical hall built by the Ford Motor Company in 1935 (for the park's 2nd international expo), and has an imaginative gift shop with items like old-fashioned leather flight hoods and new-fashioned freeze-dried astronaut ice cream. Allow at least an hour for your visit.
San Diego Harbor Excursion
This company also offers daily 1- and 2-hour narrated tours of the bay, using its fleet of seven boats ranging from a 1940s passenger launch to a modern, paddlewheel-style vessel. The 1-hour itinerary covers 12 miles, including the Star of India, the U.S. Navy surface fleet, the San Diego-Coronado Bridge, and shipyards; the 25-mile 2-hour route adds the Submarine Base and North Island Naval Air Station. In winter, whale-watching excursions feature naturalists from the Birch Aquarium. The 2-hour Sunday brunch cruise aboard a sleek yacht is popular; dinner cruises sail nightly.
Cabrillo National Monument
Breathtaking views mingle with the early history of San Diego, which began when Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo arrived in 1542. His statue dominates the tip of Point Loma, 422 feet above sea level, which is also a vantage point for watching migrating Pacific gray whales en route from the Arctic Ocean to Baja California December through March. A self-guided tour of the restored lighthouse (1855) illuminates what life was like here more than a century ago (fog and low clouds made the lighthouse ineffective so another was built close to the water in 1891). National Park Service rangers lead walks at the monument, and there are tide pools to explore at the base of the peninsula. On the other side of the point is the Bayside Trail, a 3.2-mile round-trip down to a lookout over the bay. Free 30-minute videos and slide shows on Cabrillo, tide pools, and the whales are shown on the hour daily from 10am to 4pm. Note the view from the visitor center to the left (north); the blocky structure on the water is the navy's nuclear submarine base. The drive from downtown takes about a half-hour.

Nice Resort

Anonymous, Denver, CO

Be sure to take advantage of the hotel shuttle service to the San Diego Int'l Airport, Sea World and downtown San Diego.

The Dana was a very nice place to stay... clean, comfortable and a very friendly staff. The rooms are tastefully decorated... the marble/granite countertops in the bathrooms add a very luxirious feel to every room. It is very close the Sea World and few a minutes from San Diego International Airport. It also has two nice restaurants onsite.

Great Atmosphere

Anonymous, Boise, ID, 2007-03-12

The Hotel was just a short drive to Sea World and the airport. The Dana also provided a free shuttle to these two areas, which made it very nice. It also was only a short drive to Pacific Beach, although the shuttle didnt take you there, all you had to do was ask for a cab and they called you one.

The Dana on Mission Bay, was very nice, it was close to Sea World and the Beach. The rooms were nice and I liked the fact that the sinks were seperate from the shower. That made it quite alot easier to get ready in the morning. The property was very well kept up and had a great view from each hotel room. The staff was very friendly and always willing to help.

Great Hotel

It's a short drive to the Ipay one center or Sea World

I really liked the room and the area it is in. The only negative feedback I have is that I ordered room service and waited too long. I had to call back and noone new about my order or had a reason on why I did not receive my food.

The Cleanest, Freshest, most beautiful view

Anonymous, 2006-08-17

Bring snacks. The room has a refrig and coffee maker...GREAT help. There are NO places to eat if you want something QUICK or have returned late from seeing the sights and are hungry.

Really, the pearl of the Mission Bay. Greated by a sculpture of playing children, a pool looking over the bay and a charming front desk staff, I was immediately enchanted. I was not disappointed when I got to my room on the pool side, second floor facing the bay. I loved it. Your cleaning staff is efficient and friendly. Security is visible and kind. I did not use the pool because we were there to play golf, see the zoo and sea world. Now for the improvements. The restaurant althought a delight to sit in, was just that a place to sit in. The waitress was kind and attentive, but the cooks were WAY to slow. After we placed our order and ate the entres we waited for one and half hours for the main dish which upon arrival was not cooked. The rice was hard, the pasta aldenten could break a tooth, and the slamon was dry. The waitress did all she could to work with the cooking staff who were definitely at fault. One evening we arrived late and tired. I went to order from the restaurant, and all the quick meals were gone even the soup of the day was depleted, so I called room service at 9:25 PM, well guess what they closed at 9:30 PM and did not take my order. OK...there are no other options to a couple without a car. So we sat and the room and ate airplane crackers, bananas and peanuts. Recommendations for improvement. Create a fast food menu or maybe a snack area by the pool, that provides quick service once room service is closed. Talk to the cooking staff and try the McDonalds approach...TIME the Delivery...anything over an hour is grounds for a serious discuss and if the waitress can keep the peace, like our waitress did that night (we weren't the only group complaining) give her a raise, we certainly left her a good tip, just for her pain and suffering. But would I go back again....YES, in a heartbeat. I loved everything but the food service. Your hotel is great, a great price and with a few, just a few in your food service...I would live there!

Great views!

Pamela, Wichita, KS, 2006-05-29

Ocean side beach is very close. You can also see the fireworks from Sea World in the evenings.

The room was very clean and comfortable. The view from the hotel room balcony was beautiful and very relaxing. The checkin was quick and painless as well as the checkout. Hotel staff was friendly and eager to please. Several beaches are very close by. I would recommend this hotel for families or a romantic weekend getaway.

San Diego Family Dream Spot

Rachel, 2006-04-22

Nestled on a marina within hearty walking distance to Sea World (also have free shuttle), numerous state parks and beaches around San Diego's gorgeous Mission Bay, Paradise Point and Mission Beach. We surfed, rented bikes to cruise the beach, swam in fun hotel pools, did all the La Jolla reef walking and College touring- it was a dream vacation.

The Dana is nestled in a wonderfully convenient family-friendly location with tons of fair weather local attractions, particularly for the active family. The rooms themselves were basically an upgraded motel- clean and remodeled. The pool side window didn't damper the outside noise and the in room air conditioner/fan unit was very loud. Room service food tasted great once it arrived-- but they really boofed our 2 orders. It took a LONG time for our pizza (which they kindly took care of for us). The teaser was the service of ice cold beers that weren't twist off with no opener and watching them sweat as we ate the yummy pizza and waited for an opener... Overall I was delighted with the hotel, staff and location. It's probably the best area to stay in San Diego.

close to entertainment and beach

Sea World is in walking distance and so are a couple restaurants.

The view was beautiful and also was near to a lot of family oriented things. The only negative thing was the size of the room. It was clean and the view was nice.

Nice, but no water...

Victoria, Los Angeles, CA, 2006-02-11

Nice size room (was up graded for free, which was nice). But no amount of nicenes or luxury will compansate for the fact that there was no running water from midnight, until check out at 11am. My request to extend my check out time to 2pm due to the situation was denied.
