Japanese Friendship Garden
Of the 11 1/2 acres designated for the garden, only 1 acre -- a beautiful, peaceful one -- has been developed. The garden's Information Center shows a model of the future installation, San-Kei-En (Three-Scenery Garden). A self-guided tour is available at the main gate. From the gate, a crooked path (to confound evil spirits, who move only in a straight line) threads its way to the information center in a Zen-style house; here you can view the most ancient kind of garden, the sekitei, made only of sand and stone. Refreshments are served on a Japanese-style deck to the left of the entrance. Japanese holidays are celebrated here, and the public is invited.

Coronado Municipal Golf Course
This is really more for people who are vacationing in Coronado and just can't bear to leave the "island." It is an 18-hole, par-72 course overlooking Glorietta Bay, and there's a coffee shop, pro shop, and driving range. It's tough to get a tee time here, so 2-day prior reservations are strongly recommended; call after 7am.

Maritime Museum
his unique museum consists of a quartet of classic ships, led by the full-rigged merchant vessel Star of India (1863), whose impressive masts are an integral part of the San Diego cityscape. The ship is a National Historic Landmark and the world's oldest ship that still goes to sea; in her day, the Star sailed around the globe 21 times, and carried salmon fishermen to Alaska and British emigrants to New Zealand. The gleaming white San Francisco-Oakland steam-powered ferry Berkeley (1898), worked round-the-clock to carry people to safety following the 1906 San Francisco earthquake; you'll find a museum with fine ship models on display. There's also the elegant Medea (1904), one of the world's few remaining large steam yachts, and Pilot (1914), which was San Diego Bay's official pilot boat for 82 years. You can board and tour each vessel; allow an hour for your visit.A new addition to the collection is the Californian, a 130-foot replica of the 1848 cutter C.W. Lawrence; the majestic ship is used for day and weekend sails. In July and August you can watch movies aboard the Star of India.

Room was clean and quiet. Never could get the TV to stop putting the subscripts on the screen and no instructions on how to fix it. Breakfast was adequate but not great. Alarm went off at 5 am and we didn't set it so perhaps the maid was upset at us for asking for new sheets.

Family friendly atmosphere

The hotel was close to lots of points of interests. We had breakfast and it was good. Hotel amenities were satisfactory. Plenty of parking. If you are not familiar with the area, you may miss the entrance. You can see the hotel, but following the direction given by Mapquest, it was very easy to miss the entrance. The hotel was not located in the address literally. The street was a dead-end with no back entrance. To get to the hotel, one has to cut across the gasoline station in front of the hotel.

The free breakfast was great. The only problem that you may work on is the lobby space whereby people can eat. It was somehow crowded and the turnover of the few tables was slow. Otherwise, the stay was great and we would like to go back there at another time!
