During your San Diego vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego Downtown
Opened in 1993, the downtown branch is the second location of the Museum of Contemporary Art (the original branch is in La Jolla). Two large and two smaller galleries present changing exhibitions of nationally and internationally distinguished contemporary artists; plan to spend about half an hour here. Lectures and tours for adults and children are also offered. The first Thursday evening of every month is "TNT" (Thursday Night Thing), with eclectic artist events and drawing the martini set. In 2005 MCA will take over the baggage building of the Santa Fe depot across the street, which will almost triple the exhibition space at this branch, making it the preeminent museum in downtown. Docent tours are available on request.
Marston House
Noted San Diego architect Irving Gill designed this craftsman house in 1905 for George Marston, a local businessman and philanthropist. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and now managed by the San Diego Historical Society, the house is a classic example of prairie-style architecture, reminiscent of the work of Frank Lloyd Wright. Some of its interesting features are wide hallways, brick fireplaces, and redwood paneling. Opened to the public in 1991, it is now fully furnished with Roycroft, Stickley, and Limbert pieces, as well as art pottery. Tours take about 45 minutes.
Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcala
Established in 1769 above Old Town, this was the first link in a chain of 21 missions founded by Spanish missionary Junípero Serra. In 1774, the mission was moved from Old Town to its present site for agricultural reasons, and to separate Native American converts from the fortress that included the original building. The mission was burned by Native Americans a year after it was built -- Father Serra rebuilt the structure using 5- to 7-foot-thick adobe walls and clay tile roofs, rendering it harder to burn. In the process he inspired a bevy of 20th-century California architects. A few bricks belonging to the original mission can be seen in Presidio Park in Old Town. Mass is said daily in this active Catholic parish. Other missions in San Diego County include Mission San Luis Rey de Francia in Oceanside, Mission San Antonia de Pala near Mount Palomar, and Mission Santa Ysabel near Julian. Known as "the King of Missions," the San Luis Rey is the largest of California's missions and one of its most beautiful.

Perfect for a quick getaway

david, Reno, NV

Located close to Fridays an El Torito and close to all the shopping you could want as well as the freeways

The Comfort Suites inn was well worth the money. While the room and bedroom were not as big as I thought they would be it was perfect for 2 or 2 and small kids. The hotel was very clean and the pool was being used and enjoyed. The breakfast was crowded but they had a separate dining area and outside tables as well. We were very satisfied.

family friendly

This my first time in this hotel. Based on what I observed from the other occupants, the place is a family friendly place. What i like best is, it is very accesible to other establishments like mall and restaurants. I wished we have stayed there for at least two days.

My review of Comfort Suites Mission Valley

Anonymous, 2006-11-07

There is plenty of eating and shopping nearby. The beach and Sea World is about 15 minutes.

The Kid's Suite at Comvort Suites in Mission Valley was just perfect. It's small, clean and neat. The hotel was very clean. A great place to stay for families.

SMALL

Anonymous, 2006-05-23

The room was extremely small and depressing. There wasn't enough room at the bottom of the bed for two people to pass. Elevator was also small and probably the slowest elevator I have ever been in.

My review of Comfort Suites Mission Valley

mark, Cleveland, OH, 2006-02-02

It was close to the San Diego zoo and it was close to all the other areas of interest. It was centrally located.

the Comfort Suites-Mission Valley was very comfortable to stay at. It was very convenient, since it was right off of the highway. It was so convenient because we were able to have breakfast there every morning before we set out on our journey. There was also shopping close by. There was also a nice size refrigerator in each room. I highly recommend this place.

Nice hotel

Becky, Minneapolis, MN, 2005-12-05

The Comfort Suites Mission Bay was a nice hotel, okay for the money. The room was okay, could have been cleaned better, there was dirt on the walls. The telephone by the bed did not have a phone cord on it and the room did not have a guest directory. We called the front desk for information and did not receive an answer, then went to the front desk to get information on ordering pizza, he did not give us a directory but gave us a flyer on one pizza place. The front entrance of the hotel needs a light over the sign, after dark it is very hard to see where to turn into the hotel. The hotel is very centrally located to the San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Old Town, etc. Shopping and restuarants were also close. We rented a car which you definately want to do. We had a wonderful trip.

Somewhat Satisfied

Nancy, Jacksonville, NC, 2005-07-25

The hotel is located in Mission Valley which, is convenient to all the major San Diego attractions. You won't find smaller elevators in many U.S. hotels (very European)but this was a minor inconvenience. The room was badly in need of re-painting (some of the paint was chipping off the walls) and the air conditioner was very noisy. However, the housekeeping service was first rate and the staff was friendly and helpful. I would not rate it with three stars but rather with two or two and a half.

Room Size from Photo Very Misleading

William, Cincinnati, OH, 2005-07-07

A note to those who may want to stay here... BEWARE... this is no "suite", not even a "mini-suite". The second bedroom is truly a glorified closet just large enough to walk on one side of the sleeper sofa when it is folded out. In the main bedroom there is not enough room between the foot of the bed and the TV set to stand comfortably. When I spoke to the front desk clerk after check-in he remarked 'I wish they would get rid of those photos as they are very misleading'. This is nothing like other Comfort Suites where we have stayed elsewhere!
