This is the YMCA and should not be called a hotel it is hostel rooms . The gym was excellent the rest was not comfortable. Score 1 out of 5 Review Horacio, San Juan, PR, 2006-11-07 The caf next door has the best breakfast in town. Make sure you try the huevos rancheros!Score 4 out of 5 Inexpensive but at a price David, Houston, TX, 2006-08-08 While the hotel is inexpensive compared to other hotels in the area, it does come at a price. No air conditioning and rather thin walls. There is a fair amount of street noise at night which makes sleep difficult, as the room is stuffy unless the window is open, which, of course, only increases the noise level. The walls do not keep out the noise from rooms on either side. I had to rap on the wall at 2:15 AM to get a TV turned down. I ended up borrowing a fan from a friend to give enough "white noise" to be able to sleep. Having said this, if budget constraints are a high priority, it is significantly less than other hotels. But I will not stay there again, as it is nice to be able to sleep, not simply to save money. Score 1 out of 5 bad fr the familly Manaf, 2006-05-24 The caf next door has the best breakfast in town. Score 5 out of 5 Budget Accomodations in San Diego Howard, Detroit, MI, 2006-04-04 The cafe in the hotel is a good place for breakfast. The 500 West Broadway Hotel in San Diego is conveniently located within easy walking distance of the Amtrak Train station, Convention Center and Gaslamp district in which are located many fine but more expensive restaurants. The rooms are barebones bed, desk, TV with communal style bathrooms that have privacy locks. The cabfare from the hotel to the airport was $8.80. For fitness, there is a YMCA located within the building. This is a good choice for a budget hotel in San Diego. Score 1 out of 5 Converted YMCA Anonymous, 2006-02-19 This hotel is in the heart of downtown San Diego. There are many other, more accomodating hotels within blocks of this one. When I arrived in San Diego and told my cab driver the address of my hotel, he asked me why I was staying at the YMCA. When I replied that I was staying at the 500 West Hotel, he chuckled and informed me that it was a YMCA not long ago. If this hotel had been converted from a YMCA, they didn't do a very thorough job. The elevators were shabby at best, and though the inspection certifications were visibly displayed, they had long since expired. The hallway carpets were stained so severly in some places that it looked as if someone may have been murdered there. Upon opening the door to my room, I found a futon with no bed linens and a poorly lit room that was slightly larger than a cubicle. Furthermore, there was no bathroom! Upon further inspection of the accomodations, I discovered that this hotel had community bathrooms in the hallways. Upon taking-in this situation, I turned off the light in my room, proceeded back down to the lobby with my luggage and checked out immediately. |
