During your Sacramento vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
California State Capitol
Closely resembling a scale model of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., the beautiful, domed California state capitol was built in 1869 and renovated in 1976. Sacramento's most distinctive landmark, the capitol has been the stage of many political dramas in California history. The 1-hour guided tours provide insight into the building's architecture and the workings of the government it houses. Note: Security will ask you to put your purse or backpack through a metal detector.
Crocker Art Museum
This museum houses an outstanding collection of California art, as well as changing exhibits from around the world. It's in an imposing century-old Italianate building, with an ornate interior of carved and inlaid woods. The Crocker Mansion Wing, the museum's most recent addition, is modeled after the Crocker family home and contains works by Northern California artists from 1945 to the present. Plan to spend about an hour here.
California State Railroad Museum
Well worth visiting, this museum is the highlight of Old Sacramento. You won't miss much if you bypass the memorabilia displays and head straight for the museum's 105 shiny locomotives and rail cars, beautiful antiques that are true works of art. Afterward, you can watch a 20-minute film on the history of the Western railroads that's quite good, then peruse related exhibits that tell the amazing story of the building of the transcontinental railroad. This museum is not just for train buffs: Over half a million people visit each year, and even the hordes of schoolchildren that typically mob this place shouldn't dissuade you from visiting one of the largest and best railroad museums in the country. Allow about 2 hours to see it all. From April to September, on weekends and holidays from 11am to 5pm, steam locomotive rides carry passengers 6 miles along the Sacramento River. Trains depart on the hour from the Central Pacific Freight Depot in Old Sacramento, at K and Front streets. Fares are $6 for adults and children ages 13 and older, $3 for children 6 to 12, and free for children under 6.

Everything you need

Nancy, Fresno, CA, 2006-11-08

There is an Applebee's a few feet away from the hotel lobby if you don't want to drive anywhere.

Not a plush place, but everything you need is right at your fingertips. There is a gas station and several restaurants, shopping, movie theatre & Cal Expo spitting distance away. The continental breakfast borders on a full breakfast, it was much more than I expected. My only concern would be saftey as it is a Motel with the doors to the exterior, so watch your back if going from the parking lot to your room. The premices were very well lit though. Excellent price.

Room in major disrepair!

Jason, 2006-10-28

Our room was very rundown, there were patches of carpet cutout and the tack strip and carpet pad were showing; the microwave and coffe maker were on a couple of particle board shelves with bubbling paint and chunks of wood missing. The toilet was cracked and the seat was worn out, the bathtub fixtures had holes and cracks around them and were installed crooked so you could not turn them all the way off and leaked, the shower alternated between hot and cold the whole time you were in there because you could not stop the water from trickling out of the bath spigot. The alarm clock was broken but still in the room, and the mattresses were only somewhat covered, the sides of the bare mattresses hung out and were covered with brown stains. I took our daughter down to the pool and saw dirty band-aids and beer bottles around the pool and the spa water smelled like fish.

Should be called Mosquito Inn

beverly, 2006-10-22

The nice thing about this hotel is that there is a shopping complex right next door that holds chain restaurants, jamba juice and Starbucks.

We stayed with our daughter in this hotel - it was so horrible! First the rooms were dirty. The sheets had sheds of hairs on it. Then when we got the sheets replaced - the mosquitos started coming out of the woodwork. For an overnight stay, my husband ended up with 7 mosquito bites, my 7 month old had 3, and I had 5.

Pleasantly Surprised

shelly, Reno, NV, 2006-10-22

Arden mall is just across the street about 1/8 mile.

The rooms were very clean and spacious. It felt good to be at a hotel where the ownership/management take pride in their property. The grounds are being kept up nicely, the flowers are beautiful, the roses where in bloom and the grass is green and healthy. The staff was very accomodating and the price was great. I was hesitant about staying, but felt how could one night be that bad, however we were pleasantly surprise and would definitely stay here again.

A great value at a great location.

Anonymous, 2006-09-23

The hotel is located three exits away from the actual capitol building and is situated at walking distance from the mall, restaurants and the movie theatre.

The room was neat and well stocked. For the price, it had more amenities than I had imagined. It had a microwave, small frig, iron, ironing board and hair dryer. These items may not seem as much, but for a motel that most people will stay a night or two, it was a plus. Everyone was helpful, even at 1215 a.m., when we checked in. The pool has alot to be desired, but the motel is not meant to take place of a resort. There is some remodeling, but it is minor.

Good location

Major shopping center.

Close to a major shopping center, many restaurants, Cal Expo. Near to downtown and other sites. Spacious rooms, decent breakfast buffet, in-room frig, microwave, coffee maker.

One of the nicest experiences I've had

Mary, Kansas City, MO, 2006-08-26

There is a mall in walking distance and several nice restuarants--Applebees is across the street.

The Vagabond Executive Hotel was wonderful in every way. The room was nicely furnished and very comfortable. There was a wonderful bar area in the room with a sink and coffee maker. There was even a microwave and refrigerator. It was quiet even though we were near a busy street. The continental breakfast was outstanding. Homemade waffles, fresh fruit, boiled eggs, hot chocolate machine, cozy and cheerful atmosphere. Great!! I didn't use the pool or jacuzzi but those were also available. I would love to go back and stay for a week.

Comfortable room

Erin, Springfield, IL, 2006-08-03

The Arden Fair mall, which is quite large, is nearby.

The room was very comfortable and had several components that were beneficial (e.g., microwave, refridgerator). The room was larger than most with a large vanity area. It is in a good location (close to Arden Fair mall) and there are restaurants nearby. I was disappointed there was no fitness facility but there is an outdoor pool for those who like to swim.

Family friendly

Anonymous, Orange County, CA, 2006-07-29

Movie theater right behind hotel. And dog races

The room was a bit small for what I thought we were paying for. We didn't really like the neighborhood. But there were many dining options available. The breakfast provided was good but there was a large group of 60 that was there at the same time so we were unable to even attempt getting to the breakfast.

I found this hotel to be a very friendly hotel. It is also conviently located with stores and restaurant all around. The provided amenities were great. I would definitely come back to this hotel again!
