Sutter's Fort State Historic Park
John Sutter established this outpost in 1839, and the park, restored to its 1846 appearance, aims to recapture the spirit of 19th-century California. Exhibits include a blacksmith's forge, cooperage, bakery, and jail -- and a self-guided audio tour is available. Demonstrations and reenactments in costume are staged daily Memorial Day to Labor Day, when admissions are bumped to $4 for adults and $1 for children 6 to 16.

California State Railroad Museum
Well worth visiting, this museum is the highlight of Old Sacramento. You won't miss much if you bypass the memorabilia displays and head straight for the museum's 105 shiny locomotives and rail cars, beautiful antiques that are true works of art. Afterward, you can watch a 20-minute film on the history of the Western railroads that's quite good, then peruse related exhibits that tell the amazing story of the building of the transcontinental railroad. This museum is not just for train buffs: Over half a million people visit each year, and even the hordes of schoolchildren that typically mob this place shouldn't dissuade you from visiting one of the largest and best railroad museums in the country. Allow about 2 hours to see it all.From April to September, on weekends and holidays from 11am to 5pm, steam locomotive rides carry passengers 6 miles along the Sacramento River. Trains depart on the hour from the Central Pacific Freight Depot in Old Sacramento, at K and Front streets. Fares are $6 for adults and children ages 13 and older, $3 for children 6 to 12, and free for children under 6.

California State Capitol
Closely resembling a scale model of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., the beautiful, domed California state capitol was built in 1869 and renovated in 1976. Sacramento's most distinctive landmark, the capitol has been the stage of many political dramas in California history. The 1-hour guided tours provide insight into the building's architecture and the workings of the government it houses. Note: Security will ask you to put your purse or backpack through a metal detector.

Good for a pass-bye

We were a 6 member team on a mission weekend that time. Our plan was to ski and visit Lake Tahoe on Saturday and then trek at Yosemite on Sunday. After reaching this place, we found it amazing. The neighborhood was good that we had right from Italian to Wendy's in the 1-mile-circle. Though the only thing which worried was the early morning breakfast, lacked some variety. Room service, courteousness and responsiveness were all fine. If you a TV lover, then watch-out for the remote control, even after complaining they did'nt rectify it. And yea for nightlife, Sacramento downtown was only a few miles away!

DINING WAS ACCESSABLE, BUT ONLY WITH A VEHICLE. I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THAT THE FREEWAY WAS NEXT TO HOTEL WHICH WAS A VERY CONVIENENT DRIVE.

I WAS SATISFIED WITH THE STAY, AND THE CHECK IN STAFF WAS VERY FRIENDLY. I WILL KEEP IT SHORT AND SWEET AND SAY THAT I WOULD STAY AGAIN.

Great Chinese buffet.

The hotel is freeway close but leaving the hotel is a little difficult. The towels in the room need to be upgraded or replaced because they are very thin in weight or they are very used. You almost need 2 towels to dry yourself off. The bathroom fan grill was loose and would vibrate and make extra noise while showering.

Lots of restaurants down the way.

Bed was comfortable, the shower had great water pressure but breakfast was lacking. Hotel was very inexspensive and fit in our budget but ever-thing smelled like cigarette smoke. We just did not feel safe with the people constantly walking around on the walkways.

Not totally wheelchair accessible

I requested ahead of time to inquire whether this inn was wheelchair accessible. I was told it was after a call was made to the inn. I was surprised to see that my wife could roll her wheelchair from the car to the office without me having to assist the wheelchair up on the curb to get to the office. The rates were low and you get what you pay for and the type of people that were there made me feel uncomfortable and unsafe.
