good location

ben

this is a high priced hotel where i expect good quality. the heater in my room was inop...it was freezing...finally, they changed me to another room... on a cold day...the rooms should be heated before my arrival...i shouldn't have to arrive to a cold room, sit and wait 1/2 hour for the place to heat up. the room was ok...nicely decorated and clean...however, the bathroom had no vanity...what??? so...where does one put their toothbrush, brush...etc etc... i had to leave all this stuff in the bathroom sink... this was a huge bathroom...certainly enough for a table or something... dining was a joke...on a friday night their dining room is closed...only the bar is open for sandwiches and drinks... what??? no dining room on a fri night... i stay here because its a really nice location...in the santa cruz hills were its peaceful and quiet... i'd say the place is more hype than quality...stuff that makes for a pretty brochure...but not necessarily practical amenities...

Pleasant getaway

Tom

A number of nice restaurants down on the beach in Capitola. The valets are more then happy to give you a map and instructions.

The hotel was very friendly and accomodating. The rooms were great. The bed was extremely comfortable. The only downside was the water pressure was very low in our room. We only stayed one night so don't know if that was typical. Couldn't walk to at places really from the hotel, but the view made up for that.

A great get-a-way

Stephanie, 2006-10-14

close to the beach and Santa Cruz.

We only stayed 1 night, but it was the perfect bay area get-away to relax. Close by, and yet an escape. The spa was fantastic! The room was very cool, modern/retro. We will definitely go back.

excellent service

Staff knows customer service-the difference between true hospitality is in the aim to please attitude that makes you smile-these folks have it down. Beds are great-with european style bedding. Walking trails devine.

Great Retreat!

linda, 2006-08-19

Santa Cruz marina was an easy drive. Crows Nest had great snacks and wine. The walk around the marina pleasant. We did the day trip to Carmel, 17 mile drive, and Monterey and recommend it highly if you've never been! An easy drive along the coast with lots to see.

I kidnapped my husband for this trip! What a treat! As soon as you pass the Chaminade sign, you enter a different world! The tree lined, sun dappled road is just the beginning. The property was beautiful. Staff was very helpful and friendly (I tend to be hyper aware working in a service industry). Rooms are like little apartments rather than one large main building. The sleeping area was generous, the bathroom a bit tight. Our ground floor room had a patio with chairs and small table to relax and enjoy the outdoors. We didn't use the spa facilities, the ocean and sightseeing were a bigger draw for us! Easy access to both! A glass of wine on the main patio at sunset-HEAVEN! The only (small) drawback was a packed lounge on Friday night (duh!). A multi-year class reunion plus a wedding on site got quite loud and warm in the confined area...but the other guests were very friendly. We would return in a heartbeat!

Great Valentine Getaway

Anonymous, 2006-02-15

The Chaminade is in beautiful Santa Cruz...a very short drive to incredible beaches along with the famous Beach & Boardwalk recreation and entertainment attractions....

The Chaminade is one of Northern California's Best Kept Secrets....Our Valentine Getaway could not have been more perfect....It is a quiet and relaxing location in the hills and woods. The views are spectacular...The amenities are incredible. We loved the romantic feel to our trip....We ordered room service for breakfast and it was delivered right on time. The food flawless and delicious. The room has wonderful feather beds... I visited Chaminade 12 years ago and could kick myself now for not having returned more often.... The property has been improved with a state of the art fitness facility, spa, and an outdoor pool that is 82 degrees round the clock... The hot tub/jacuzzi wonderful....Tennis courts are meticulously maintained.... It was hard to leave this peaceful place... Next time, we are staying for a few days...

Loved it!

Anonymous, San Francisco, CA, 2005-12-25

If being close to the pool, fitness center, or conference room is important to you, make sure you specifiy it at the time reservations are made.

The staff was so wonderful! I had an AWESOME massage with a view of a spring and the redwoods. The food was good, slim pickings for vegetarians though. Drinks were great!

Excellent Location...

Anonymous, Ontario, CA, 2005-11-27

The accommodations at the Chaminade was comfortable. The location was set apart from the usual mainstream downtown area being situated in the Santa Cruz mountains. The biggest disappointment was the limited dining option. This was the weak point of the facility. The quality or value for the dollar was not there...

Great location and great staff

Anonymous, Phoenix, AZ, 2005-10-23

Lots of restaurants within a short drive and staff is very helpful to suggest places.

Chaminade is in a great location...private enough so you feel out of the hustle and bustle but close enough to freeways to get to where you need to go. Rooms are large and I like the idea that there is a sink in the bathroom as well as one outside of the bathroom...helps in the morning rush. My only complaint would be that last time we were there we felt like the beds were much more comfortable...in fact, I stripped the bed to see what they did to create such softness and this time I noticed that the sheepskin mattress cover was now replaced with some foam pad...not a good thing. All in all, an enjoyable stay.

Georgeous grounds and view of ocean

Judy, Sacramento, CA, 2005-10-10

I like to go to Moe's Alley to listen to the blues. Everything is within driving distance.

I love to stay at the Chaminade because of the beautiful grounds. I have stayed here one other time and didn't have a chance to take a hike on any of the 3 trails. This time I did, and it was beautiful Also, I love to sit either in the bar or on the patio to eat as it overlooks Santa Cruz and you can see the ocean all the way to the horizon. The feather mattresses, comfortors and pillows are luxurious. I sleep like a baby!
