During your Phoenix vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Pueblo Grande Museum and Archaeologicial Park
Located near Sky Harbor Airport and downtown Phoenix, the Pueblo Grande Museum and Archaeological Park houses the ruins of an ancient Hohokam village that was one of several villages along the Salt River between A.D. 300 and 1400. Sometime around 1450, this and other villages were mysteriously abandoned. Some speculate that drought and a buildup of salts from irrigation water reduced the fertility of the soil and forced the people to seek more fertile lands. The small museum displays many of the artifacts that have been dug up on the site. Although these exhibits are actually more interesting than the ruins themselves, there are also some reconstructed and furnished Hohokam-style houses that give a good idea of how the Hohokam lived. The museum sponsors interesting workshops (some just for kids), demonstrations, and tours (including petroglyph hikes). The Pueblo Grande Museum Indian Market, held in mid-December at Steele Indian School Park, which is on the northeast corner of Indian School Road and Central Avenue, is the largest of its kind in the state and features more than 500 Native American artisans.
Hall of Flame Firefighting Museum
The world's largest firefighting museum houses a fascinating collection of vintage firetrucks. The displays date from a 1725 English hand pumper to several classic engines from the 20th century. All are beautifully restored and, of course, fire-engine red (mostly). In all, there are more than 90 vehicles on display.
McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park
If you or your kids happen to like trains, you won't want to miss this park. On the grounds are restored cars and engines, two old railway depots, model railroad layouts operated by a local club, and, best of all, a 5/12-scale model railroad that takes visitors around the park. There's also a 1929 carousel and a general store.

under construction

Anonymous, Sacramento, CA

first watch restaurant has good breakfast, brunch everyday until 2pm - excellent, fast service, great prices. we were seated right away each time we went, at all different times, even though the place is hopping

this hotel is under construction, and according the to locals it was quite a dump before the remodeling. it might be a nice hotel when it's done but hopefully the staff, and staff practices will be upgraded too. the room upgrades are 3 star quality, all new interiors and new furniture, very comfortable beds, spacious but not huge rooms. but the construction noise is annoying, and the parking is abominable. the cleaning staff did not properly clean the bathroom, the bathtub had a ring. when i called to ask for a cleanser, about 7 pm, no one on staff could locate something, so my husband drove to safeway to buy some scouring powder. yuk ! we were intially pleased with the price, coming from california, but we found out that it was actually on the higher end for similar hotels in phoenix.

Getting Better

Randy, Cincinnati, OH

Restaurants are nearby but none in the hotel.

The Phoenix Place Hotel and Suites is being renovated at this time (1-8-2007), but is still open for business. The room was fine except for the TV reception being poor.

THERE FOR THE BCS BOWL

nancy, West Palm Beach, FL

We were only there briefly for the night just before and after the BCS Bowl. We had no problem checking in and the parking was adequate. They were helpful at the desk with directions. We didn't get a chance to really check out the whole place but everything seemed very nice and well kept.

Will be great when its complete.

This hotel was under construction at the time I was there. The bar/resturant was not open and the pool was dry. The rooms were top-notch, very well done. There was a lot of road construction going on as well. It made it difficult to navigate during rush hours.

Ok not great.

If you are on foot, you will have to walk a ways for any fast food.

This hotel is ok for a night or two, but I would not want to stay for anything longer. They need to put lightbulbs in all of the light in the room.

Fabulous Pool and Playground

Troy, 2007-02-18

The Vets Memorial Collesium is just 2 miles down the road where they also have the state fair.

If you like unique pools this hotel has one. The lagoon pool has three seperate pools with waterfalls galore. The only problem was that the only pool that was somewhat warm was the deepest pool. Our kids loved the waterfalls and walkthroughs. The playground area was very nice as well. We found the room to be very small howerver, and there was no refrigerator or hot tub. The hotel staff was not very friendly either. There also is no restaurant. If they offered breakfast in the hotel we would rate it higher and go back. If you stay at this hotel do not drive down Indian School Rd as we did it is not a good neighborhood. Go down McDowell or go to 7th off of I-10. There also was no Sign for the hotel so we had a hard time finding it.

Clean, comfortable and welcoming!

Gary, Madison, WI, 2006-12-12

My stay at the Phoenix Place Hotel & Suites, PHOENIX, AZ was short but enjoyable. My schedule was tight and I was exhausted, so getting to my room and finding is clean, comfortable and welcoming was tops! My rental car was parked in the garage not far from the main entrance. Within a couple of minutes I was checked in, in my room. Not long after I was out like a light and slept wonderfully well. It was short drive back to the airport in the morning and I was on my way refreshed. I would recommend the Phoenix Place Hotel & Suites and would look to stay there again.

GREAT HOTEL EXCELLENT VALUE

charles, 2006-12-11

EXCELLENT FIRST CLASS DINING ON CENTRAL AVENUE. JUST ONE BLOCK FROM HOTEL. AREA AROUND HOTEL IS MOSTLY COMMERCIAL BUT IS SAFE AND CLEAN APPEARING.

The Phoenix Place Hotel, was centrally located for my business and socializing in downtown Phoenix. Found my room quite large, and was very tastely furnished, bed was extremly comfortable with extra pillows. Had phone problem which was handled quickly. the staff was warm and welcoming at check-in and check out times. When the remodeling is finished, and the roof top pool opens and a dining area, this should be a top notch hotel.
