During your Phoenix vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Pueblo Grande Museum and Archaeologicial Park
Located near Sky Harbor Airport and downtown Phoenix, the Pueblo Grande Museum and Archaeological Park houses the ruins of an ancient Hohokam village that was one of several villages along the Salt River between A.D. 300 and 1400. Sometime around 1450, this and other villages were mysteriously abandoned. Some speculate that drought and a buildup of salts from irrigation water reduced the fertility of the soil and forced the people to seek more fertile lands. The small museum displays many of the artifacts that have been dug up on the site. Although these exhibits are actually more interesting than the ruins themselves, there are also some reconstructed and furnished Hohokam-style houses that give a good idea of how the Hohokam lived. The museum sponsors interesting workshops (some just for kids), demonstrations, and tours (including petroglyph hikes). The Pueblo Grande Museum Indian Market, held in mid-December at Steele Indian School Park, which is on the northeast corner of Indian School Road and Central Avenue, is the largest of its kind in the state and features more than 500 Native American artisans.
Huhugam Heritage Center
Although this architectural gem adjacent to the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort was not fully open when I visited, it did have a small exhibit on ancient Native American trading trails through the desert. However, the main reason to visit this new facility operated by the Pima and Maricopa tribes is not only to learn about these tribe's culture, but to admire the fascinating architecture and ethnobotanical garden. The center complex is built within a huge berm that was designed to resemble a giant pot buried in the ground.
The Bead Museum
You'll see beads and body adornments from around the world at this interesting little museum in the Glendale antiques district. Beads both ancient and modern are on display, and exhibits often focus on such subjects as beaded bags, prayer beads, or natural beads.

never again

Anonymous, Columbus, OH

when we went into the lobby there was a working girl. the desk clerk did not make eye contact, did not acknowledge us, did not say thank you, did not provide us with an extra pillow that we asked for. the placed wreaked of stale, cigarette smoke. the soda machine was inoperable and appeared to have been broken into. the water barely got warm for the shower. it was noisy all night ling. the desk clerk in the morning acted as if she was just too tired to be bothered-again did not make eye contact, could not dial the phone for us to call a cab, did not ask how our stay was did not ask why we were checking out after just one night when we supposed to stay 2 nights. i would not recommend this place to ANYBODY.

You get what you pay for

Anonymous, Philadelphia, PA

The Days Inn on I-17 and Thomas is definitely a hotel where you get what you pay for. The hotel is very basic, many of the amenities listed on the Days Inn website are disappointing or not functioning. The gift shop that is listed on the website is actually a display of three or four items behind the front desk. For the most part the staff seeemed unfriendly, overworked, or both. Upon arrival to the hotel front desk I was met with a woman who kept sighing heavily and rolling her eyes, for no reason. She quickly went through where I would be staying and where breakfast would be served and scurried back into her office where she was eating. The rooms are located in a separate building behind the check-in building, as well as where breakfast is served. Although there is ample parking around the premises, most cars are parked near the front entrance of the building, as the back is extremely desolate and is/was inhabited by an abandoned car. The doors leading into the building are supposed to be locked at all times, although they were propped open the entire time I was there. The surrounding neighborhood is definitely questionable, as there are constantly homeless outside of the Circle K, about two buildings down Thomas from the hotel. The back of the hotel faces and apartment complex where you often here dogs barking and people yelling inside of their homes at all times. The hotel is located directly off of the 17 freeway providing quick access to other parts of the city. The hotel is just about 20 blocks away from Midtown Phoenix. The interior of the hotel is very dark and outdated. The room the I stayed in was small, but comfortable, and had everything that standard hotel rooms have, expect a clock radio. The hotel staff did a good job cleaning the room although there was a problem with one cleaning lady entering my room without knocking multiple times. Overall, if you're on a budget and are looking for an overnight stay close to a freeway, the Days Inn on I-17 and Thomas is a place you should consider

Could be Improved

Anonymous, 2007-02-27

You have a 24 hour Denny's across the street with TERRIFIC service, for late meals, and 3 fast food joints also within shouting distance, for the kiddos.

I knew that for such a great deal, we probably shouldn't expect absolutely terrific service and accommodations, but I was pretty disappointed in the experience at the Days Inn on Thomas. We generally got the feeling that we were an imposition, instead of a valued customer. Maid service was OUTSTANDING, however. I will say that we appreciated the central location, it was handy to the freeway and easy to find. We may have just hit the facility at a bad time, but for me, I wouldn't stay here again if I was paid to do so.

My review of Phoenix Days Inn I-17

Anonymous, 2006-05-28

we were tired when we got there , so the jack in the box next door was great.

didnt like the plugs on the other side of the wall to do my hair instead of being by the sink and mirror. the room was kind of dark, not enough lighting. the location was great next to a jack in the box, for a fast snack.

Very Poorley Managed

Michael, Tampa, FL, 2006-04-24

Stay Away from this Motel

The two key cards which we were issued didn't work the first night and from then we had to get new ones every night for four nights. Our room was never vaccumed we had to ask for towels and soap. We also found little ants all over the room and a roach on the floor. We asked them to spray the room and they brought us a can of black flag. The location was very dangerous with a lot of gang activity. The only plus feature was the distance to the airport. I would never go there again nor recommend it to anyone. Very Disatifised Customer
