During your Phoenix vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
The Phoenix Zoo
Forget about polar bears and other cold-climate creatures; this zoo focuses its attention primarily on animals that come from climates similar to that of the Phoenix area (although the rainforest exhibit is a definite exception). Most impressive of the displays are the African savanna and the baboon colony. The Southwestern exhibits are also of interest, as are the giant Galápagos tortoises. All animals are kept in naturalistic enclosures, and what with all the palm trees and tropical vegetation, the zoo sometimes manages to make you forget that this really is the desert.
Deer Valley Rock Art Center
Located in the Hedgepeth Hills in the northwest corner of the Valley of the Sun, the Deer Valley Rock Art Center preserves an amazing concentration of Native American petroglyphs, some of which date back 5,000 years. Although these petroglyphs may not at first seem as impressive as those at more famous sites, the sheer numbers make this a fascinating spot. The drawings, which range from simple spirals to much more complex renderings of herds of deer, are on volcanic boulders along a quarter-mile trail. An interpretive center provides background information on this site and on rock art in general. From October through April, there are guided tours Saturdays at 10am and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1pm. From May through September, there are tours on Saturdays at 7:30am.
Arizona Science Center
So, the kids weren't impressed with the botanical garden of the Native American artifacts at the Heard Museum. Bring 'em here. They can spend the afternoon pushing buttons, turning knobs, and otherwise interacting with all kinds of cool science exhibits. In the end, they might even learn something in spite of all the fun they had. The science center also includes a planetarium and a large-screen theater, both of which carry additional charges.

This was the worst.

Janice, Minneapolis, MN

If you like pawn shops, "gentleman clubs" and liquor stores, this is the place for you.

The Travelodge in Phoenix was aweful. From the evil smell in the room, lack of any security lock in th room (the bolting mechanism was disabled, the neighborhood was frightening. We intercepted a local resident breaking into a car and attempting to steal it right in the parking lot next to our car. There were giant bugs in the wreck of a bathroom to boot. The other guests at this Travelodge clearly were there for reasons associated with illegal activity. We did not stay there the second night. I refused to use the tub or shower. We went to a Sleep Inn near the airport that was similarly priced, clean, convenient and SAFE.

disgusting

Terrence, 2007-03-12

The Phoenix, AZ, Travelodge, PHOENIX, was absolutely disgusting. At check in, the lobby was closed so information and room key were slipped through a cutout in a bullit proof glass. When I got to my room, I found the door to be open. Most lights in the room did not work. The room was dirty with water stained walls( I hope they were water stains) and paint peeling. In the morning I went to make coffee in my room only to find coffee grounds in the coffee maker and the bag for sugar, creamer and stir already opened and refilled. Deciding against making coffee in my room, I went to the lobby which was supposed to have a breakfast bar. I was told by the person at the desk that the only coffee was what was in the thermos in the breakfast room. This was 9:00a.m., not early but definately late. There were no cups, cream, sugar or anything else. When I asked for a cup I was told to go through the cupboards in the breakfast room and find one. Finding one, I retrieved my half glass of coffee, that's all that was left. The rest of the breakfast bar included a box of donuts. When opening the box there was a half eaten donut, that was it for the breakfast bar. This motel is dirty and disgusting and the staff is anything but friendly and helpful. I would not recommend this place to anybody, even people I dislike.

Review

Seth, Orlando, FL, 2006-07-27

The walls had been repaired so many times. The bathroom tiles were practically falling off the wall and the shower head was missing the faceplate causing a single high-pressure stream of water that was painful. Took the maintenence 3hrs to fix. The air conditioner was a window unit thatallowed for cold or hot only.

Continential Breakfast Included???

Anonymous, Rochester, NY, 2006-04-18

JB's Diner has a wonderful breakfast buffet. Very reasonablly priced ($6.99/person)

continental breakfast included in the hotel stay (6:30 AM - 8:30 AM ONLY) Krispy Creme Doughnuts and a beverage (coffee/OJ/Applejuice machine). I was expecting more options. Might i suggest a fruit bowl added to their menu. (something!) It was rather displeasing to see. This was our reason for searching for a breakfast location for our stay in Phoenix.

Good Size rooms

Anonymous, 2006-02-12

There was a Target and Walmart really close by. Also, the freeways and airport were a short drive as well making it quick to pick up incoming passengers.

The Travelodge in Phoenix, AZ was not in the best location. Although the rooms were nice and the office staff was helpful. This hotel is really close to the airport and in a good location for access to the freeways.

Home Depot close bye

placed visitors from Germany. 2 days the sink did not drain, cockroach in bathroom. Linen seem to have been straighned rather than washed the first day of a stay of 4 nights. no more guests, even though the rate was competitive

Never again

Erin, Missoula, MT, 2005-11-12

The Travelodge was a nightmare. At check in we were not greeted at all. As we were checking in a former guest came in very upset that housekeeping had stolen money and that a fight at the hotel the previous night had broken a window in her room and she had to pay for it. When handed the keys to the room we were told that we could park in the back or if we felt safer we couuld park right next to our room. The room was filth from top to bottom. We actually had to find another hotel to stay at for the two schedule nights that I had already paid for at the Travelodge. And then I was told that we did not properly check out of the hotel so the owner/manager decided to keep all of our money. I called and was told by the reception that I clearly had checked out properly and I even have the returned deposit on my account statement to prove it. I have been asked by many about my trip to Arizona. The good and the bad. However, safety became a very big issue at that hotel and holding my payment ransom is not fair and will not happen again.
