During your Phoenix vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Burton Barr Library
This library is among the most daring pieces of public architecture in the city, and no fan of futuristic art or science fiction should miss it. The five-story cube is partially clad in enough ribbed copper sheeting to produce roughly 17,500,000 pennies. The building's design makes use of the desert's plentiful sunshine to provide light for reading, but also incorporates computer-controlled louvers and shade sails to reduce heat and glare.
Goldfield Ghost Town
Over on the east side of the valley, just 4 miles northeast of Apache Junction, you'll find a reconstructed 1890s gold-mining town. Although it's a bit of a tourist trap -- gift shops, an ice-cream parlor, and the like -- it's also home to the Superstition Mountain Museum (tel. 480/983-4888), which has interesting exhibits on the history of the area. Of particular note is the exhibit on the Lost Dutchman gold mine, perhaps the most famous mine in the country despite the fact that its location is unknown. Goldfield Mine Tours provides guided tours of the gold mine beneath the town. The Superstition Scenic Narrow Gauge Railroad circles the town, and the Goldfield Livery (tel. 480/982-0133) offers horseback riding and carriage rides. If you're here at lunchtime, you can get a meal at the steakhouse/saloon.
Hall of Flame Firefighting Museum
The world's largest firefighting museum houses a fascinating collection of vintage firetrucks. The displays date from a 1725 English hand pumper to several classic engines from the 20th century. All are beautifully restored and, of course, fire-engine red (mostly). In all, there are more than 90 vehicles on display.

never again

Anonymous, Columbus, OH

there's stuff around, you just have to find it.

I will never stay at this Motel 6 again... or any other for that matter. I checked in on a Saturday night, Sunday all of my belongings had been sifted through and a video camera stolen. The motel's staff was rude, apathetic, and unhelpful when I came down to let them know. They refused any kind of refund or compensation and pretty much just told me they were looking into it. I still had the room for two more nights with nowhere else to go since hotels in the city were booked for a big sporting event. The very next day it happened AGAIN! My change purse was taken out of my suitcase as well as my digital camera charger! I'm assuming the thieves thought that charger went with the video camera they stole the day before. Needless to say, I will never stay there again. You could see outside through the air conditioner. There were cigarette butts that hadn't been swept up from previous guests. The staff was less than ideal and because of them I will never again stay at ANY Motel 6.

I-17 & Exit 206 Not a good place to stay

Joyce, 2007-03-06

Barbeque Dining down the road was very good.

I was very unhappy with the service... the first night I called the front desk and asked for a wake up call. I did not get the call but lucky I woke up and checked my watch... I told the clerk in the office that the call did not come in ... they said they were sorry for the trouble...I asked to have another wake up call at 4:45 the following morning because I had a shuttle service coming to take me to the airport at 5:15am...well you guessed it... I still didn't get a call... I woke up at 5:10... I called the front desk and they said the shuttle service just left.... I had to call the shuttle service back and luckly they had another pickup and then came back for me. I again complained to the front desk... the attendant asked if I told the office of the problem... She said someone should of checked the phone the first time... I would not stay there again.

A place to get in out of weather

molly, 2006-11-14

JB'S next door had some good meals and some not so good. It was within 2.5 miles of the hospital we were visiting

The motel charged more because NASCAR was in town. Gunshots 10-12 were fired during the night and room was flooded when we got back from breakfast due to a broken line from the toilet stool. There were no other rooms because of the race to be had. We were originally planning too stay two more nights but checked out and headed home. I would like to know when gas stations overcharge it is called price gouging but motels can get by with it. We would not stay at this location again.

easy and comfortable

Jeffrey, Steamboat Springs, CO, 2005-09-17

I live in the mountains of Colorado far from Costco type shopping so I was able to do some staple shopping while in Phoenix.

the Hotel was perfect for my needs of a place to cleanup and sleep. In town for my son's graduation and did not spend much time at the Hotel. My criteria for being close to the grad ceremony was met.
