The convention center is also close by.The Howard Johnson Plaza Anchorage is an old run down motel. The hotel is dark and damp with a musty odor. The carpets are dirty and loose, almost causing me to fall down the stairs. The televison did not work well refusing to shut off once it was turned on. The bathroom fixtures while not in great shape, did work well. It really needs a total remodel job. The resturant was excellent, with the friendliest staff that I encountered in Alaska. I would not recommend staying at this motel, but do stop in and eat at the resturant, great food great staff. Score 3 out of 5 Review Anonymous, Portland, OR, 2006-05-17 request room on top floor. My room was at ground level and it was right next to the streetThe door to my bathroom in my room locked me in and I was trapped! But luckily somebody was on the other side of the door to get me out. My cable didn't work either. An it was very loud where my room was at- - right next to the laundry and maid closests. It was with in walking distance to a majority of places we wanted to visit during our stay in Anchorage.We had a view of overlooking the harbor. The rooms were clean, well maintained, and quiet. We enjoyed our stay. The comfort and spaciousness of the room helped me to relax when I was not focused on business.Howard Johnson's was a very important part of my successful trip to Anchorage.
