If you are planning on staying in the vicinity of the city of San Juan, public transportation may be suitable enough to get you where you need to be. Buses are inexpensive to ride, but the schedules can be erratic; however, free trolley buses run through Old San Juan, and can be a fun way to get around the historic district. If you need to get to Old San Juan or Catano, you can take the Catano Ferry across San Juan Bay. Be knowledgeable about taxi fares, as drivers sometimes change their fixed rates for tourists.

San Juan Attractions

After you disembark from your San Juan flights, there are many things to see and do in the city. Historic sites and fun activities can be found on every corner. Some of the places you might want to see include:

• La Princesa, the old San Juan penitentiary, which now houses the Puerto Rico Tourism Company headquarters and rotating art exhibits

• The Catedral de San Juan, the Western Hemisphere's second oldest cathedral, which contains the tomb of the island's first governor
