Fly to Lourdes

If you'd like to visit charming villages in the Pyrenees Mountains, fly to Lourdes. Lourdes is known for its religious sites, and Tarbes is where you can enjoy ornate architecture and well-manicured gardens.

Attractions

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes is where thousands of people come each year to drink what are believed to be the healing waters of the Lourdes spring. You can also bathe in the waters and visit one of the 22 places of worship. The Grotto of Massabielle is a site frequently visited by Catholics and non-Catholics alike. Visiting Chateau Fort de Lordes, a castle in the center of town, can give you an idea of what life was like for the nobles back in the 11th century. Taking the funicular railway up to the Pic de Jer gives you an unobstructed view of the villages below, the Argeles-Gazost Valley and the Pyrenees. In Tarbes, a popular spot to spend an afternoon is the Jardin Massey where you can sit, have a bite to eat and take a carriage ride.

Hints and tips

Lourdes and Tarbes are connected by the RN21 with the Lourdes - Tarbes-Pyrenees Airport (LDE) located in between them. Flights regularly arrive from Paris, Brussels and a few other European locations, and those flights generally last between one and two hours. Daytime highs generally range from 50 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter to almost 80 in the summer, and it rains frequently.
