Flights to London

There are five international airports where flights to London land with a sixth being built in readiness for the Olympic Games. London also has another four airports which handle domestic flights. The world famous Heathrow Airport (LHR) is undoubtedly the largest and is located 20 miles west of central London. Heathrow is one of the busiest airports in the world and quite possibly the most sophisticated with sleek intra-airport transport and lovely dining. The second largest is Gatwick Airport (LGW) in West Sussex, 30 miles south of central London and Europe's leading airport for point-to-point flights. Other international airports include: London City Airport (LCY), Stansted Airport (STN) and London Luton Airport (LTN). Transport options to and from the airports include: the London Underground, rail, coach, and taxi—the frequency of the transportation systems make London flights a breeze.

London Weather

London has a reputation of being a rainy city with a 5-month chilly to cold winter from November to March. Winter temperatures can dip below freezing, so be sure to pack warm clothes if traveling at this time. London flights in the summer will meet temperatures in June and August around 60 to 70 degrees. Spring and autumn can be mixed. July is probably the best month to visit, although this is peak season and quite expensive, as this is the best time to avoid bad weather in London. November is normally the rainiest month of the year, so you can save money on London flights, but be sure to purchase an umbrella at Heathrow on the way out of the sliding doors.

Getting Around London

London's public transportation systems' efficiency and mapping is legendary with frequent and timely trains, with the tube, buses, and coaches widely available all within reachable distance and offering comfort and reliability. If you will be travelling considerably within London, then the savings offered by a travel pass are considerable. Travel passes can be used on trains, buses, and the London Underground for various periods. Taxis are also available but travelling by road in Central London during the day may not be the fastest way, and with London's congestion, hiring a car is expensive. Late night (after midnight) options lessen as the transportation system shuts down, although there are regular night buses and the famous black cab.
