Cheap Key West Flights
When looking at Key West flights, you have several options on where to land. You can fly into either Miami International Airport (MIA) or Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and drive south over the U.S. 1, the Overseas Highway. If you prefer direct flights to Key West, you can choose Key West International Airport (EYW). Several large carriers schedule regular flights to Key West directly and some of the smaller carriers also stop here, while others land in Miami at the larger airport. EYW has restrictions on baggage weight due to a short runway, but this is only for departure Key West flights. International flights are directed to MIA with connections available to EYW. Opened since 1957, it was only a few years ago that it doubled its size to take on more air traffic. MIA has all the amenities expected from an international airport, but EYW puts you much closer to your destination.
Key West Weather
The tropical climate provides for ideal weather year-round. The temperatures stay moderate and comfortable with the surrounding ocean. It seldom rains during the winter months; however, to plan your flights to Key West during this time is okay because it seldom rains long enough to spoil a sustained vacation. Hurricane season runs from June to November, with the highest risk between August and October. The average temperature for this period is in the eighties with only a drop of a few degrees at night. The weather can be quite humid, but all hotels in the area are conditioned for a comfortable environment.
Getting Around Key West
If you land at the Key West International Airport, you can take a taxi to your lodging directly from your flight. You also have the option of hiring a pedi-cab or taking a trolley or bus line from Grayhound or Keys Shuttles to go from one place to another. A bicycle rental can provide an interesting way to see the scenery and spend time outdoors in the beautiful weather. You can also hire a car for your stay here if you plan to go very far or want to visit other areas of this, the southernmost part of the U.S.
