Detroit Metro Airport

The Detroit Metro Airport is located at 1 Detroit Metro Airport, in Romulus-a suburb of Detroit. Five airlines offer flights from Detroit to New Orleans: US Airways, AirTran Airways, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and United Airlines.

If you need to leave your car at the airport while you travel, the airport has numerous long-term parking options. You can park in the Big Blue Deck lot for $10 per day or the Green Lot for $8 per day. A free shuttle service transports passengers from the parking lots to the terminal. If you choose a flight with Delta Air Lines, you can also park in the McNamara Terminal Parking Structure, which has an enclosed walkway between the garage and the terminal. If you don't want to drive to the airport, you can get there via taxicab. Cab fare from downtown Detroit costs $44.50.

If you want to get something to eat before your flight, the airport has a variety of options to choose from. You can eat at Max & Erma's, Cheeseburger Cheeseburger or the Hockeytown Café. If you're looking for something quick and cheap, you can head to Burger King, Wendy's Church's Chicken or McDonald's.

You can get from the airport into the city by bus, airport shuttle, taxicab or rental car. The airport shuttle bus transports passengers to all area hotels for $20. You can catch the bus outside entrance #7. Bus fare costs $2 per person. Taxicabs from the airport to downtown cost $33 for up to two people and $14 for each additional person. If you want access to your own vehicle, you can reserve a rental car using Orbitz.com. The airport houses eight rental car companies, including Hertz, Budget and Avis.

New Orleans has a humid subtropical climate; it has short, mild winters and hot, humid summers. During the winter, the average temperature ranges from the low 40s to the mid-60s. Summer temperatures range from the low 70s to the low 90s. If you travel during the summer, you can expect some rain. The city averages 64 inches of precipitation per year, most of which falls between June and August.

You can do more than party on Bourbon Street when you visit the French Quarter. You can listen to jazz music, shop in various boutiques or take an informative walking tour of the area. History buffs will enjoy taking a walking tour of the Garden District. The area is filled with historic homes and mansions.
