Flights to Mexico
International flights to Mexico land at any one of many international airports around the country. Mexico City, Acapulco, Cancun, and Guadalajara are major tourist destinations, and most airlines fly into all four of these cities. If you want to explore off the beaten track, there are many more regional and international airports available as well! The Benito Juarez International Airport in Mexico City is indicative of airports throughout the country. Providing nonstop service to North, South, Central America, and Europe, it is the only Mexican airport that also provides service direct to Asia. It is served by United Airlines and Delta, and is a hub port for Aeromexico, and a secondary hub for the Aeromexico Connect subsidiary. The other major international airports in Mexico have similar services.
Mexico Weather
Mexican weather is determined by latitude and altitude. The higher into the hills and mountains you go, the cooler it gets. In general, Mexico has a dry season and a wet season, and temperatures vary by region. Take care traveling during hurricane season, which lasts from June to November. Traveling during these months isn't discouraged, but take precautions in case of large storms. In general, you will want to check the weather reports for the region of Mexico you are visiting: variations in altitude and proximity to the oceans can create great variations in average temperature from region to region.
Getting Around Mexico
Once you have disembarked from your Mexico flights, there are many ways to get around the country. The country has good roads and a comprehensive bus network. Buses come in several price points: premium, first class, second class, and luggage is generally safe when stowed in the baggage hold. Make sure you get a receipt for it when you check it, however, and keep your passport and other valuables in the cabin with you, closely protected from pickpockets! Driving yourself may be a bit more complicated than driving in your home country, but it can be a good way to transport surfboards or other ungainly baggage, or to get to places off the beaten road, where you'd otherwise have to risk hitchhiking!
Mexico Attractions
After your Mexico flights land, you will want to explore the area. The country is vast and varied, and each region has lots to do, see, and explore. Take your time to relax or jump on a whirlwind tour: the choices are yours. Some major attractions include:
- Piramidi di Teotihuacan. Step pyramids near Mexico City that you can climb.
- Cancun, one of Mexico's most popular destinations, featuring snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, horseback riding, bars, and restaurants open into the night.
- Museum of Anthropology, with an extensive collection to folk dancers and street food in the courtyards.
- Punta Mia, one of Puerto Vallarta's best diving and surfing spots.
- Cathedral Basilica of Durango, a colonial treasure in the north of the country.
