During your Los Angeles vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Cafe Pinot
Joachim Splichal's downtown glass house of a bistro is about as good as it gets. Although it is perfect for a meal before the theater, this place is worth the drive just for the meal alone. The steak fries are perfect, the chicken is delicious, and the lamb is so tender you can forget your knife. During nice weather diners enjoy the patio, which is by far one of the lovelier spots in this part of the city.
Frenchy's Bistro
This charming restaurant serves delicious cuisine from Provence, with a menu that features traditional standbys such as Country Style Pate with Provencale olives, Escargot, Famous Crab Cake on Wilted Spinach, Baked Brie wrapped in phyllo, sauteed fresh Foie Gras on Pain d'Epices, jumbo shrimp, roasted chicken breast with goat cheese and stuffed salmon with fresh herbs. The specialties include rack of lamb in a mustard seed crust, crispy duck, braised lamb shank provencale and grilled filet mignon.
Bicycle Shop Cafe
This cafe is a quaint little spot that many visitors to Los Angeles miss. Bicycles hang from the ceiling and the clientele is mature and sophisticated, since they come for the great jazz and delicious wine. Live jazz and blues fill the place nightly. The menu is interesting, with such offerings as seafood, sandwiches, salad and pastas. The specialties and most popular dishes are linguine with mushrooms and lamb shanks. To drink choose from the extensive wine list ($15-$150/bottle) or choose one of the available beers. Full bar.
Make your reservations for discount hotel rooms in the
Los Angeles area, including:
Hilton Garden Inn Anaheim/GardenGrove
This newest addition to the Hiltons in the Disneyland/Orange County area is a AAA Three Diamond hotel. It provides free transportation to Disneyland and the Anaheim Convention Center, which are both only a half-mile away. Everything you need to feel at home is here. Every room contains a hospitality center featuring a microwave, coffee maker and refrigerator. In addition, you can entertain the kids (or the kid in you) with the Sony Playstation that comes with your room.
Chateau Marmont
This hotel has been an icon of privacy and seclusion since the 1930s for the likes of Greta Garbo, Sam Shepard, Johnny Depp and Keanu Reeves. A small curve in Sunset Boulevard keeps the hotel slightly removed from the antics and high-profile action on Sunset. The French castle-like hotel was restored in 1998 to its original eclectic, but tasteful, beginnings. With suites and bungalows offered, you (like the stars before you) may choose your level of preferred privacy. The Bar Marmont is one of the hottest bars on the Sunset strip. Chateau Marmont has more than its fair share of notoriety. It's where John Belushi famously overdosed in 1982. Despite this, the Chateau Marmont is entirely charming and a great place to stay since it's close to everything in Beverly Hills and Hollywood.
Vagabond Inn Oxnard
Located in Oxnard, which was once called "Land of the Everlasting Summers" by pre-colonial Spanish explorers, this hotel is a great place to base your Ventura County vacation or business trip. You will be near the Downtown Mall, U.S. Naval facilities and the Carnegie Cultural Arts Center. Each room in the hotel is comfortable and clean, and offers the simple amenities that will make your stay pleasurable. Enjoy a free daily newspaper, complimentary breakfast and the outdoor swimming pool. The affordability of the rooms and the friendly staff will bring you back again and again.
