During your Baltimore vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
La Tavola
A newcomer to Little Italy, this spirited restaurant does Italian cuisine with a bit of modern flair, and the emphasis is on seafood. Here the tortelloni is stuffed with ground grouper as well as ricotta cheese, and the list of specials is more likely to include tuna than veal. The Insalata Di Mare, a shrimp, clam, scallop, squid and mussel salad with an orange flavored dressing, is a must. The décor is modest, even a bit bland, but with food this good, you may never notice.
Frazier's On The Avenue
Hampden is one of Baltimore's funkier blue-collar neighborhoods, and this busy establishment is its answer to the chic upscale bars of Federal Hill and Canton. By all accounts it holds up very well. During weeknight happy hours, the place is packed with young urban professionals who amble in for the great drink specials and the excellent bar fare, which includes steaks, hamburgers and seafood dishes. The dimly lit dining room is a bit cavernous, but a large collection of stuffed ducks and vintage photographs give it a homey touch.
Hamilton's
Although Hamilton's is a relative newcomer on the Baltimore restaurant scene, it has managed to cultivate a growing and loyal clientele. The dining room, with an exposed stone wall and seating for just 79 guests, is intimate and cozy. Seafood and sweetbreads are staples of the creative menu. The Grilled Pork Loin with orzo pasta, cipollini onions and portobelo mushrooms, and Grilled Beef Tenderloin with carmelized onion and Bel Paese potato tart are worthy of special note.
