Fabulous 50s Buffet & Pizza Parlor
When you're ready for a fabulous blast from the past that's as fun for food as it is for atmosphere, head for this retro restaurant. Located on easy-to-find Irlo Bronson Highway, the main road from Disney to Kissimmee, this place has it all: breakfast, lunch, dinner, an ice cream parlor, a gift shop and even a game room. While you can expect to find the usual fare on the bulging breakfast buffet, the dinner buffet includes a few surprises. From four different pizzas to Italian sausage, from meat loaf to hot dogs, from pot roast to fried chicken, you're sure to find something here to satisfy every member of your dinner party.
La Coq Au Vin
This fine French restaurant is located on a nondescript stretch of Orange Avenue better known for convenience stores than gourmet eateries. Inside, guests enter a world of romantic lighting, starched white tablecloths and excellent cuisine. You might begin with onion soup, topped with Gruyere cheese ($5) or an appetizer of phyllo dough stuffed with vegetables and cheese ($5.75), and follow that with a grouper filet ($16) or a Black Angus steak ($16).
Bar-B-Q-Bar
Some restaurants just look like fun, and this is one of them. Management serves up slow-cooked beef in a dining area festooned with tiny white Christmas lights. Part of a beat-up camper is mounted over the bar itself, and scenes depicting the life of Elvis Presley have been carved into the bathroom walls. While you're enjoying the kitsch, dine on a $6 Pork Platter, a $5 jambalaya special and add a side order of collard greens.
