Kane's Chop House
Kane's Chop House offers steaks and seafood in an upscale atmosphere. The décor, in Art Deco style, is tastefully elegant yet spare, featuring soft track lighting, plush carpeting and modern art works on the walls. The menu focuses mainly on beef and lamb, but also includes pork chops and a few seafood entrées.
Hamburger Heaven
Located on Crestwood Boulevard in Irondale, Hamburger Heaven has been serving traditional American cuisine for many years. This is an old-fashioned hamburger stand. All the tables offer a view of the grill, which dominates the center of the dining area. Freshness is what makes a great hamburger stand, and the owners of Hamburger Heaven understand and appreciate this. Everything here is made from scratch as it is ordered. The service is fast and friendly, and the daily crowds are a good indication of the exceptional quality of the food. There is another location at 5303 Highway 280 in Hoover, +1 205 981-6402.
Aladdin's Grill
Gyros and wrap sandwiches at very reasonable prices are the big draw here, although Aladdins' menu is as diverse as they come. Dinner specials include gyros, garden vegetable pitas, fish, falafel and burgers. Hummus, French fries and tabouli salad are among the sides. Hispanic employees have also begun offering Mexican dishes. Beer and wine are available by the bottle, but the iced tea flavored with mint is the drink of choice.

Old Harbin Hotel
Built in 1923, Old Harbin Hotel was once the talk of Nauvoo, AL, a small town located approximately 60 miles northwest of Birmingham. When it opened its doors, it featured 76 electric lights—quite impressive for its time. Owners Gene and Earlene McDaniel originally ran a grocery and hardware store on the ground floor, then bought the building and transformed it into a bed-and-breakfast. Added to the Alabama Landmark register in 1990, the two-story brick building still boasts its original pine walls and room numbers. The décor includes period antiques, photographs and newspaper clippings from the 1920s and '30s, enhancing the feeling of stepping back in time. The seven guest rooms each have private baths; four are en suite. Skylights accent the four center rooms.
Crown Plaza Redmont Hotel
The historic Redmont hotel, located downtown on Fifth Avenue North, has recently undergone a complete renovation to restore it to its original splendor. The décor, though updated throughout, tends toward the traditional with its antique furnishings, chandeliers and high ceilings. The rooms are tastefully furnished and comfortable. Many rooms have excellent views of the city. The hotel has a full service restaurant, Grill 521, and a lounge, Corner Lobby Bar.
Tutwiler Hotel
The Tutwiler Hotel, located downtown at Lynn Park, offers a taste of Southern hospitality on a very grand scale. The décor is an antique-furniture lover's dream. The marble foyer floor has been beautifully worn by years of traffic. The dining room is handsomely appointed with leather chairs and oak tables and is marked with soft lighting and plush carpet. The rooms are large and tastefully decorated, and many have balconies with stunning views of downtown Birmingham. The hotel's restaurant, the Grille at The Tutwiler, is one of the finest in Birmingham.
