During your Dallas vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Eccolo Ristorante and Enoteca
Alvin Granoff, a former Texas legislator with 20 years of law experience, owns this restaurant. The upscale atmosphere here attracts business people and couples looking for excellent authentic Italian food. The chef spent a year studying in Italy and then brought regional specialties to the menu for Eccolo. The extensive wine list complements the entrees well and all pasta served here is made in house. Entrees include Breast of Guinea, Grilled Tenderloin with Marsala, and Roasted Rack of Wild Boar. For dessert try an Italian favorite, Tiramisu, which is excellent here.
Goff's Hamburgers
A popular spot after high school football games, Goff's is just a short, five-minute drive west of The Highland Park High School football field. This is a classic hamburger restaurant with simple tables and comfortable chairs and has been a secret favorite of local residents for over 35 years. Be sure to try the wonderful Saladburger with a special sauce or the spicy Chiliburger. Those who want to try something really different should order "Deal #12"—a combination hot dog/hamburger with chili, cheese, onions and hickory sauce. Don't forget to order some of the spicy onion rings and tasty French fries. Beer is available, as well as sodas and coffee.
Dovie's
Dovie's is housed in a 1930s stone farmhouse that once belonged to movie star Audie Murphy. Formerly known strictly for its home cooking, the current ownership (as of 1990) added new American upscale foods. Upscale comfort and rural Texas style—that's Dovie's. Service is impeccable. House specialties such as Rainbow Trout, Chicken-Fried Steak, Pot Roast, steaks and chicken Saint Clair are always popular fare. Sunday brunch features traditional menu items, as well as egg dishes. Sunday brunch is served a la carte from 10:30am to 2pm. Reservations recommended. Alcohol is served.
