During your Los Angeles vacation, don't miss these great establishments and attractions:
Genghis Cohen
From the bizarre name you'd think this was an Asian kosher delicatessen. You'd be wrong. The menu is strictly Chinese (besides the coleslaw & pickles) and it's good. The crowd is a mix of those who come for the Szechuan pork, and younger music types who'll either perform or patronize the acoustic music room that's just off the entrance. Although it depend on who's playing, you can usually get into the music room for less than $10. Come for the food, but stay for the music.
Burger Continental
For more than 30 years, people from all over Pasadena and even distant parts of L.A. have been coming to this great restaurant. You'll enjoy visiting the various stores on Lake Avenue as you walk to the patio entry area. In addition to the many fine burger plates, regulars come here for the tasty breakfast menu items as well as the pita sandwiches, gourmet pizzas and fresh salads. Once you begin your meal, you'll know why it won "Best Continental Cuisine" in a recent newspaper poll which local residents vote in each year.
Miceli's
This restaurant hasn't changed in years because it is perfect the way it is. Sure, it is dark, but some call that romantic. The food is strictly Old World Italian, which means good and not too fancy. The occasional star sighting gets the crowd talking, but the singing waiters (and guests) keep the toes tapping. As long as you don't need something while your waiter's singing "Amore," you will be a happy camper. Although dinner is only served during the hours listed below, the bar stays open until 2 a.m. each night—depending on business.
