Westwood Tap and Grill
This is the epitome of neighborhood bars, with pool tables, dartboards and bartenders who know all the customers by name. The menu includes breakfast and burgers. Choose from the interesting selection of lesser-known beers or order one of the familiar giants. There are a few tables about, but mostly everyone crowds the bar. Friday and Saturday nights feature karaoke from 9pm-close. Perhaps one thing that has made this a neighborhood favorite is Henrieta Bricker, sole owner since the place opened. Bring cash. Credit cards are not accepted.
Miracle Mile Deli
This bustling delicatessen has been serving customers in the Valley since 1949. Choose from homemade soups and sandwiches and then eat in or takeout. This laid-back facility has a diner-like appeal, offering hot corned beef or liverwurst sandwiches, as well as hot pastrami or a chef salad (ranging $4.95-5.65). Party platters are available for groups; please call for information. Matador
The sprawling mural of a matador in action sets the mood for this spicy Mexican restaurant. In addition to traditional Mexican fare like enchiladas or chile rellenos, the menu features a handful of Greek dishes. The adventurous can sample some calamari, prepared Mediterranean-style. A fully stocked bar adjoins the restaurant. The crowd varies with downtown events, but you might want to call for reservations (especially on the weekends) just to be on the safe side.
